It is with great love and sorrow, that we announce the passing of Saundra Phyllis Saunders on June 8, 2022, in her 66th year, in the Palliative Care unit at Marionhill in Pembroke, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Saundra was the beloved wife of 40 years to Doug Schauer, Dear Mother to Barney and Ed Schauer, Loving «Grams» to Calvin and Victor Schauer, and cherished Mother-in-law to Sheena Schauer. Saundra is pre deceased by her parents Ross and Mary Joan (McCann) Saunders, and survived by siblings Willie Saunders, Gordon (Cheryl Beach) Saunders, Robert Saunders, Patricia (Wayne) McCulloch, Ross Saunders, Clifford (Elizabeth Brown) Saunders and Paul (Geraldine) Saunders, as well as 19 nieces and nephews, and a number of grand nieces and nephews.
Saundra was born in Ottawa where she spent her early years then moved with her family to the Eganville area in her early teens, where she attended Opeongo High School, and developed friendships which have lasted to this day. After high school, she worked at various institutions in the Upper valley, and resided in Arnprior, Pembroke, and Cobden. On November 8, 1981, she married Doug Schauer, and eventually moved to the Micksburg area.
Saundra loved living in the country and of all the flora and fauna it contained. She especially was fond of birds, and became adept at their identification and habits, and had numerous pets over the years.
She was well respected in the community, especially for her annual Halloween sets and antics displayed at home, and to the families of the children who she cared for, who continue to keep in touch into their adult years. She relished in her annual «Sister-in-law Weekend, and loved her siblings and extended family.
Most of all, Saundra was devoted to her family, who were the focal point of her life, and who will dearly miss her.
Saundra’s final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville where visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and again in the evening from 7:00 until 9:00pm.
