Patrick Chobaniuk

Long time Bow Valley Resident, Pat passed in the early hours of October 27th. Pat is survived by his loving wife Rose, cherished daughter Pemry and her partner Andrew of Calgary/Morley, much loved sister Sue (Mike) Adams of Lethbridge and treasured dog Katie.
Born in Toronto, Ontario Pat spent his formative years in Regina and Waskesiu, Saskatchewan. He and Rose met and married in Prince Alberta, Saskatchewan, then settled in Banff in 1973. As ‘pioneers’ to the then newly developed Cougar Creek section of Canmore, Rose & Pat moved to their forever home in 1983 and were joined with the arrival of Pemry in 1987.
The majority of Pat’s working life was spent proudly with Banff National Park as a plumber. Taking early retirement in 1992 he became ‘House Dad’ to young Pemry and delighted in spending his hours nurturing their extra special bond. As Pemry was known to tell us, he was an excellent Dad.
Pat was an avid traveller and the family took numerous trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, Aruba, Miami, England and Japan. When not venturing off by plane, camping was the Chobaniuk mode for vacationing with weekend get-aways to area provincial parks and lengthy stays in Radium and Kelowna. Often joined by their dear friends, there was nothing like a day on the golf course followed by cocktail time (usually more than an hour), steaks on the bar-b-que with campfire potatoes, and an evening of stories and laughter.
A huge sports fan, having been an avid curler, and excellent golfer (usually beating Rose), Pat could often be found taking in the game, the race, the fight, or pretty much any sporting event.
Pat was a major proponent of rescue animals, particularly dogs, and there wasn’t a time in Pat’s life without the joy of a four legged family member in the household. Over the years you likely saw Pat walking Sergie, Zak, Alice and most recently Katie along Cougar Creek. While Pat was an extremely loving husband and father, it was often contemplated that the dogs took top spot in his heart.
Please join us for Pat’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., Breakfast Room, Canmore Inn & Suites, 1402 Bow Valley Trail, Canmore.
