PAMELA DIANA ATKINSON nee Jackson 1941 to 2022

Passed away peacefully in Toronto on November 21, 2022.
Pamela was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1941. She was born to Ethel and Thomas Jackson. She was the youngest of six siblings, with Muriel, Sylvia, Bill, Deirdre, and Marjorie born over a span of 24 years. She was an aunt by the age of three and quickly had many nieces and nephews with whom she developed close relationships. She spent the early years of her childhood living between Dublin and farm life in the Irish countryside. She loved being on the farm and enjoyed telling stories of that time. She recalled times when she ran away from school, took off bareback on one of the family horses and was offered her pet goose, Jemimah, on a dinner platter.
At the age of eleven she travelled alone by boat and then train each term to attend boarding school in England. She missed her family tremendously and was relieved to be able to return home after graduation.
She then returned to England to train as a physiotherapist. She loved caring for her patients and was passionate about her work. She made lifelong friendships during that time. With limited job prospects in Ireland, she came to Canada in 1964 to join her sister Marjorie and her children, Matthew and Adrienne.
She then met Philip and they were married in 1970. They soon welcomed Mark and Victoria. She left her career in physiotherapy to become a fulltime mother.
In 1982, she lost the love of her life, Philip, to cancer. She then committed her life to raising her children. She began working at the local school to ensure that she had as much time as possible with Mark and Victoria. She encouraged, guided, and supported them with tireless love and devotion. She enjoyed travelling back to England and Ireland to spend time with extended family.
In retirement, Pamela was a proud volunteer at the Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook hospital. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and walking with friends.
She will be sadly missed by her children Mark (Danielle) and Victoria (Andrey); and her grandchildren Daniel, Elliot, Kate, Cody (Priscilla), Ivory (Chris), Jacob (Alicia), Logan, Zoe and her great-grandchildren Myla, Shelby and Asher. She is survived by her elder sister Marjorie; and nieces, and nephews across the globe.
She will be remembered as dedicated to family, an avid walker, keen traveller, and a wonderful cook. Gran will be remembered by her grandchildren as always ready to get down on the floor to play with them or read a bedtime story together and for the food she prepared for family gatherings.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1st at 11 am at the Yorkminster Park Baptist church (1585 Yonge St, Toronto). Reception to follow.
For those who may wish to honour her memory, donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
