Obituary of Norman William George Roy
Norman William George Roy passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the age of 84 in Regina, SK. He was born on June 13, 1937 in Macklin, SK. Norman was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Sarah Roy; son Danny Norman Wilbert Roy; parents Wilbert George and Mary Beatrice Roy. Norman leaves to mourn his son David Joseph (DJ) Roy; grandsons Jeremie Raphael Roy and Dillon Norman Roy; sisters Sylvia (Charles) Lester, Marion Thomson, Joan Anderson, and Karen (Tony) Girard, and his brother Gordon (Margaret) Roy.
Norman married the love of his life, Dorothy, in 1959. They had two sons, Danny born in 1961, and David born in 1964. Norman and Dorothy loved to travel, and the entire family enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting together.
Norman had many skills that provided different opportunities. He was a Railroad station agent in Miette, AB, Coleville, SK, and Maple Creek, SK, a Bank Manager in Coleville and Maple Creek, and he worked for the Provincial Government in La Ronge and Regina to establish Credit Unions and Cooperatives in the north. Norman also owned and managed family businesses including the Round Up Dairy Bar and Roy’s Jewelry in Maple Creek. He was also the distributor for MapArt products in the province. In retirement, he worked as a Commissioner at the Regina Airport and had the required security clearance to guard the Queen’s plane during a Royal Visit to Regina.
When Norman and Dorothy moved to Regina in the late ‘80s, Norman re-established his relationship with God. Norman became very active in the Community of Christ church and was ordained to the office of Priest. He acted as the supervising contractor when the church took on a large expansion project and successfully saw it through to completion. Norman also used his skills as the Financial Officer for the church.
Norman loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. Many of the places he lived provided excellent hunting and/or fishing opportunities. Most recently, Norman enjoyed fishing with his son, David, at Crooked Lake each summer. Norman’s last hunt was in November, and he got his deer with the shot of a marksman.
Norman was someone who would always step in to assist where he could. He was a kind and gentle person who loved helping others and he will truly be missed by those who knew him. A private in-person Celebration of Norman’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00 am for immediate family (masks required), and will be available for others to join via Zoom.
