Neil Vincent MacDonald
New Victoria
We, the family of Neil Vincent MacDonald, aged 80 of New Victoria, regretfully inform you that he passed in the early morning of June 17, 2022. We want to acknowledge and thank Doctor Stephen Farrell who consistently provided advice and attention concerning Vince’s particular health issues.
Vince was born on November 18, 1941 and was predeceased by his parents Neil J. MacDonald and Mae (Mary Violet Dawe), members of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney. He is survived by his sisters Annette (Bob Purcell), Rosemary (Don Mclean), brothers Michael (Hughena White) and Ronald James (AudreyTighe) and by many nieces and nephews
In 1976 Vince and his mother relocated to New Victoria and to St. Leonard’s Parish. Following her death in 2010, his younger brother Ronald became his legal caregiver and for the next twelve years, Ron and his wife Audrey provided Vince with the highest degree of comfort and care. They were ably and ever kindly assisted by the understanding and help of Jim and J.R. of the Cape Breton Homemakers Association
Vince was a huge hockey fan, devoted to the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Cape Breton Oilers and Eagles. Though the Leafs haven’t won a cup in a few years, Vince’s faith in them never wavered and with each beat out he would comfort his brothers with a “there’s always next year”.
Those who knew him knew Vince to be a man of life’s simple pleasures. To skating in his younger years, to trout fishing with brother Mike in Grand Narrows, he enjoyed many concerts, especially Celtic music and he particularly loved Evans and Doherty.
Vince was a world traveller! He spent time in the US, the Caribbean, the UK, France, Italy, Greece and more. He spent many long car rides with his family travelling all over Canada.
However, the contribution he made to the Sydney YMCA is his best-known responsibility. He volunteered for more than 40 years and could often be seen walking to and from the bus stop on Daley Road with his metal lunch can, a smile on his face, and a friendly “how’s she goin” for everyone he passed.
.
There will be no visitation. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 23, at 10am, in the Parish of Saint Leonard, with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Victoria, followed by a reception at the Army, Navy, Airforce on Wilson Avenue.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500. To send online condolences, go to: www.mclellanfuneralhome.com
