Grandchildren; Shanna and Miya, brothers and sisters; James (Goretti) Downey of Halifax, NS, Cecil (Racheal) Downey of Yarmouth, NS, Wanda (Roger) Chaisson of Sackville, NS, Sylvia Downey (Randy) of Codroy, NL, Darlene (Dennis Bryan) Downey of South Branch, NL and Arlene (John) Squires of Fort McMurray, AB, brothers and sisters in-law; Ellen (Danny) Hatcher, Burnt Islands, NL, Carolann (Reg) Knott of Halifax NS, Roxanne (Roland) Keeping of Port aux Basques NL, Stan Anderson of Burnt Islands NL, Troy (Trish) Anderson of Carberry MB, Christopher (Kyala) Anderson of Elkhorn MB, Sister in Law Pauline Anderson, plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He spent over 30 years as a hunting guide and enjoyed every minute of it. When he was in the woods, he was in his happy place. He cherished his family and always put a lot of effort into making sure everyone was looked after. He loved his brothers and sisters and extended family, not to mention the many friends he made along the way. He lit up the room when he walked in and you knew if he was around, you were guaranteed to have a good laugh. He was very proud of his sons, and he did everything he could to make sure they both had a great childhood and adult life. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and was always so proud to show them off. He also loved his two pups, Maggie and Molly, and the cat Puss Puss – they will miss him dearly.
Above all, he loved his wife Dianne and tried his best to make sure she knew it every day. Whether it was a random dance around the kitchen, or a love note left in the morning, she meant the world to him. He was a wonderful man – a fantastic father, son, brother, grandfather, nephew and friend. We all know how much he missed his mother and father, and we take comfort in the fact that he is with them and they are all watching over us. We couldn’t possibly have a better bunch of angels up above us.
The Family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for the absolutely amazing care and compassion given to Michael over the past few weeks. They went above and beyond over the course of 23 days to make sure Michael was comfortable and well looked after. A very special and heartfelt thank-you to his sisters Darlene (& Dennis) and Sylvia for being by his side the entire time and making sure that Michael was never alone. Also to his cousin Raymond Downey for always being there when Michael needed him especially the day after his accident. Thank you to everyone who sent prayers, called, sent messages, or helped out in any way. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to the family.
