Tributes
DAVIDSON, Kenneth Ivan
November 17, 1927 – December 18, 2022
«Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful» On December 18th, 2022, after 95 years of spreading sunshine and goodwill on earth, our beloved Papa Davidson, went soaring to heaven to be united with his «beloved bride» of over 70 years, Beverley. (No doubt he ate a burger on the way!) Our beloved Papa Davidson was an icon in the village of Fallowfield where he was born November 17th, 1927 and proudly married the love of his life Beverley Montgomery, August 10, 1949. He built his home and garage in Fallowfield where he raised his 3 daughters; Cindy, Elizabeth and Lee-Anne. Papa established FALLOWFIELD GARAGE, an institution that people from far and wide would come to have their vehicles and tractors serviced. He was a legend because of his infectious smile, honesty, integrity, energy and storytelling. Everyone knew if you came to the garage, be prepared to sit down and get comfortable because Papa Davidson was going to tell you a story or two. As a mechanic he was First Class, but it was his utterly humble honesty that brought people back time and time again. Dad’s customers were treated like family and were enveloped in his warmth. He was «as honest as the day is long» and so respected for his hard work ethic and integrity. He was beloved by his daughter’s work colleagues who brought their vehicles to Papa for servicing. They would come back to work to tell the antics of Papa and his story of the day. Husband, Father, Mechanic, Farmer, Entrepreneur, Storyteller, Inventor, Trouble Shooter and Lover of Life. Dad was so devoted to his family. He loved food (you could set your clock by him for breakfast, lunch, supper and two snacks). He was passionate about his land and what he could reap from it. Anything with four wheels stole his heart; in particular tractors and vehicles. If you couldn’t find our Darling Papa on a tractor, no doubt you’d find him underneath one tinkering away and «happy as a clam». Dad was known for many infamous expressions including «stand back the engines hot» smiling away as he said this or, when concentrating, he’d say «now don’t say a word». But most often he could be heard thanking his customers for their patronage with genuine gratitude saying «Thank you until you’re better paid». That was Dad – a businessman but more important a man that was humble, kind and honest. Many people have said Papa was «one in a million», a legacy and, he was. He was known for giving so genuinely to others. He gave his heart and soul to his family. At age 90 he was still calling his wife «My Darling Bride». We 3 daughters were so blessed because of his tremendous support and respect. He was so proud of our accomplishments. We flourished because of the confidence, integrity and hard work ethic he, and our darling Mama, instilled in us. Dad was so, so proud of his 3 son-in-law’s Ken, Dick and Shawn. Dad was never shy with his emotions or displays of affection. They all received hugs from Papa and one thing is for certain, he shared a unique and special bond with each of them. Dad was grandfather to Courtney. Dad loved babies and was thrilled when Declan arrived to Courtney and Cale Neidy, November 2019. Papa gave so easily to others because of his «Love of Life». He embraced a «Joie de Vie» that was unparalleled. Every day he had a smile on his face and he had the ability to cherish every moment; be it sitting on the tailgate of the old green Ford at the farm watching the setting sun, cutting potatoes to plant in the garden or ploughing snow. Dad loved it all and embraced life like no other person. This love of life he passed on to every person he met. He made the world a better place. He said he was blessed and he was. Now you go Papa. Get on the big CASE tractor and go off to the back 50. Don’t forget the huge boxed lunch Mama has made for you (not that you would). She put enough in there for you and Clarence; your beloved farm dog. Oh Papa, we all love you so. You were and are our hero. Thank you «from the bottom of our hearts» (another expression of Papas) for loving us and making our lives beautiful. You have been the best father and human being ever. You, and Mama, were «one in a million» on earth. Now you are both «one in a million» in heaven. Cherished forever by your 3 precious daughters: Cindy Ann Davidson and husband Ken Steele, Elizabeth and husband Dick Steele, Lee-Anne Davidson and husband Shawn Gilbert, granddaughter Courtney and husband Cale Neidy and Declan, great grandson. Thank you to everyone who made our Papas life complete. Our family is forever grateful to his Family Physicians – Dr. E. Biggs and Dr. Ducey and their medical staff. We cannot thank enough the devotion of the staff at Extendicare Medex – Baseline Road. His final days were made comfortable given the care of Dr. Huang and the entire team of D4 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. We thank you for your graciousness and kindness extended to Dad and his family during his passing.
The family has arranged a private funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dementia Society or a charity of your choice.
