Our matriarch passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 at Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster at 105 years of age. Born in Leominster, Herefordshire, England on December 17, 1916, Vera was the oldest of six children born to Richard and Lily Hall. At the time of her birth, her mother was living with her parents, Charles and Annie Rooke, above the local police station where Charles served as Chief Constable while Richard was stationed overseas in France during WW1. After the war, the family moved first to Burnaby settling in the Edmonds Street Stride Avenue area where Richard, a carpenter cabinet maker, built the family a home. By the 1930s the family expanded and a move was made to the grounds of Essondale Provincial Hospital where Richard worked as head of occupational therapy. As a young woman, Vera liked to fish, swim and ride horses as well as being a caring, dependable presence in her familys life. For nearly 40 years she worked for the B.C. Provincial government rising to the position of Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics retiring in 1974 to care for her mother. In later years Vera lived with her sisters in the Queens Park area. She will be remembered for her love of family, homemaking, animals, Oldsmobiles, baking (especially Christmas cakes) and travelling to Hawaii and her native England. Predeceased by her parents and siblings Bill, Joyce, Margaret and Patricia, she is survived by her brother and sister-inlaw, Les and Audrey Hall of Maple Ridge, several nieces and nephews and their families. A special thank you to Buchanan Lodge for their excellent care and niece Wendy Whiting for all her help over the years. No service by request.
Till we meet again!
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Kathleen Vera Hall 19162022..
