Joan passed away peacefully in her home on
September 9, 2022 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her parents, Robert
Newton and Clara Dorothy (Cavanaugh) Peck; sister, Joyce Taylor and
brother, Edward Peck. She was also predeceased by her first husband,
Douglas Hatt Sr., who she had eight sons and was pregnant with her
ninth son at the time of his death. She went on to marry George Roy
MacEachern, in which she had a girl and four boys, and also adopted a
baby girl. That’s right, 15 children in all and she loved
telling anyone who would listen about having 15
children!
Joan was also predeceased by one of her sons,
Marlon Shawn Hatt, two grandson, Victor (Brookes) MacEachern; niece,
Joy Taylor; as well as her long-time partner, John Dennis
Muise.
She is survived by her sister, Frances (Peck)
Leavitt; loving sons and daughters, Paul Hatt (Gail Porter), of
Lakeville; Bruce Hatt (Sue Croft) of New
Minas, Linn Hatt (Jeannie Kilabuk) of New Minas, Kevin Hatt of
Kentville; Alan Hatt (Rhoda Kilabuk) of Ross Corner, Byron Hatt of
Kentville, Gregory Hatt of New Minas, Douglas Hatt of New Minas,
Amarilis MacEachern (Pete Drouillard) of Dutton, ON, Wayne MacEachern
(Nicki Beck) of Beaver Bank, Kenneth MacEachern (Terri-Lynn Toney) of
Cambridge, Renee MacEachern (Andre Edmunds) of Hammond Plains, Conrad
MacEachern (Kimb Dill) of Kentville, Ryan MacEachern (Jess MacPherson)
of Kentville; five nieces, three nephews, 42 grandchildren and 31
great-grandchildren. Joan worked at the Kentville Sanitorium for 15
years in her younger days. She loved painting, needle point, sewing,
baking, cooking big meals and having her family near. Joan was a loyal
member of the Kentville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 20 years.
If there was a fire anywhere, anytime of the day or night, she would
be in the kitchen making soup or sandwiches for the firemen and
women.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville where the funeral service will also be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Reverend Chris Johnston officiating.
For those unable to attend a video webcast will be available at the
time of the service. Interment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery,
Steam Mill, followed by a reception at the Kentville Volunteer Fire
Department, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to the
Kentville Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. To view
