It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Duane Sampson. Jim passed away peacefully at home at the age of 89. Jim was born in Bromhead, Saskatchewan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean Sampson
(née Lewis), his brothers Harvey and Stanley Sampson, his daughters Jane (Heinz) and Judy Anne (Joe), his sons John (Karen) and Jay (Rosemary), his daughter-in-law Cathy Mackenzie, his sister-in-law
Ada Sampson, his brother-in-law Richard Erick, his grandchildren
Jesse (Nancy), Amanda (Chris), Janet (Todd), Christopher, Andrew (Krista), Sarah (Nik), Jasmine, and Owen, as well as his great-grandchildren Jaxon, Jordan, Madison, and Evan. Jim was predeceased by his mother Beatrice Sampson, his father Martin Sampson, his older brother Lavern Martin Sampson (Sammy), his sister Jean Erick, eldest son Jim Sampson, and his grandson Jason Sampson. There are numerous extended family members that are not mentioned but are not forgotten.
Jim arrived in Canmore in the late 1940’s to work with Manix construction as a Machine Operator on the Spray Lakes Canal. He worked in the mines and had a successful 44-year career at Canada Cement/Lafarge as a Crane Operator and Millwright. He was a volunteer Firefighter and a member of the Militia.
Jim was an avid golfer, curler, pool player, and enjoyed following many sports. He was an active member of the Legion and was a good friend to the Bow Valley.
There will be a Celebration of Life, at the Canmore Legion,
on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 1PM to 4PM.
