Jean Louise (Johnson) Patterson
1933-2022
PATTERSON (nee Johnson), Jean Louise
October 14, 1933 – May 21, 2022
Peacefully with family by her side at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam
following a broken hip in January, confounded by complications related
to advanced Parkinson’s Disease. Predeceased by a daughter
Heather, granddaughters Jessica and Daniella, parents Wilbert and
Ethel (Cleghorn) Johnson, and six siblings (Pauline Young, Seymour
Johnson, Maxine Sabine, Evelyn Mackenzie, Joyce McArthur, and Joan
Stewart).
Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy; son R. Tim
(Elizabeth Anderson), and grandchildren Malcolm, Calder and Heather;
son Jonathan (Christina Racozzi)and grandchildren Alexander and
Christian; foster son Joey Follis (Colleen Manto), and grandchildren
James and Moira; sister Wilberta Topple; sister-in law Irene Findlay;
brother-in-law Waldron Sabine; and a large clan of nieces and
nephews.
Jean was born in Lawrence Station, NB, and in her teens commuted every
day by train to attend McAdam High School where she graduated in 1952
from the commercial program. She was recruited right of out of high
school to work for General Electric in Peterborough, ON and onward
from there to other exotic locales including Goose Bay, Labrador.
After meeting and marrying her best friend in life, Roy, she spent the
rest of her days in Harvey, NB, and especially enjoyed the last 30
years that they spent together on the shores of Wightman Cove,
Oromocto Lake in the Tweedside district of Harvey. Up until the last
few years Jean was very active and could often be spotted kayaking
around the cove and beyond. Breakfast or lunch on the deck at the
house, or at the camp on the lakeshore was always an enjoyable
pastime.
Jean’s children were her world and she loved them
unconditionally. She instilled in them the importance of
perseverance, fostered their sense of curiosity and thirst for
learning, the importance of responsibility, honesty, integrity and
under all circumstances remaining well grounded.
She will always be remembered for her delicious cooking, especially
her world-famous potato salad, a mainstay of innumerable family
get-togethers. Jean was a master of the traditional
‘Harvey’ games of auction 45, and crokinole, and was a
particularly formidable scrabble player. She enjoyed all manner of
crafts. Her quilts, afghans and tole paintings are treasured
possessions in her children’s households. She enjoyed travel
and with her sons was able to spend time camping out with rattlesnakes
and scorpions in the US southwest, having deep discussions with
international dignitaries during a memorable multination NATO mission
in Europe, visiting with distant cousins on multiple trips to Ireland,
England and Scotland, and soaking up the sun in Cuba.
Her funeral will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2412 Route 3,
Harvey, NB on Saturday May 28, 2022, at 2 PM with Rev. Anne Boudreau
and Rev. Basil Lowery officiating, followed by a reception at the
church.
The family requests that those who wish to express sympathy please do
so through a donation to the Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam,
