Janina Lucja Milisiewicz May 4 1922

Obituary
Passed away peacefully, in her home as she desired, with
Krys and Katrina at her side. Janina was predeceased by her husband Jerzy (1978) and her son
also Jerzy (1990) and is survived by daughter Krystyna Angel and grand daughter Katrina Angel (Kevin Bell), step great grand children Tristen and Keira and grand niece Anne Sophie Cox (UK) . Born in the UK to Polish parents, Janina emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1950 with Jerzy and their 2 toddlers making their home in North York. While employed at North York Township, Valuation caught Janina’s interest so she enrolled in and completed the required courses to become a Land Appraiser with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. She was the first woman to obtain this licence. Next she completed her BA in Urban Studies from York University and qualified as an Ontario Land Economist as well. As an appraiser with the Ontario Ministry of Transport, her assignments took her all over Ontario. After her husband had passed Janina moved to Cabbagetown, then Eaton College Park and then to a little house on The Kingsway where she created a garden and lived happily for 20 years. At age 83 she moved to a downtown condo where she joined the social club and made many new friends. Volunteering was important to Janina and she devoted countless hours to the Copernicus Lodge Library, the York University Alumni Association, the Canadian Opera Company Archives and the Textile Museum Library, among others. Janina was a member of the Association of Ontario Land Economists, The Friends of the Canadian Opera Company, the Polish Naval Association Canada and the Etobicoke Horticultural Society. She was an environmentalist before her time, a great contributor to the arts and music of Toronto. She loved Toronto, art and music, especially opera, travelling, Canadian literature, singing, weaving on her own looms, gardening, cats and coffee/wine breaks with her friends. She wrote that the joy of her life was her two “grand” daughters, Krys and Katrina. Janina was strong minded, smart and sharp to the end, loyal and independent and there wasn’t much that could get her down. At her request there will be no service or visitation. A scattering of her ashes will take
place on her beloved Lake Ontario in 2023. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.ridleyfuneralhome.com.
