It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Irene Frances Whitty, 64, loving companion, beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.
Irene was born in Neil’s Harbour on January 21,1958. She was one of 12 children born to the late Russell and Martha (Donovan) Whitty, of Ingonish Beach.
Irene grew up in Ingonish and later moved to Sydney Mines to start her own family.
Irene enjoyed her two children, Kim and Cory more than anything, and always made sure they had everything they needed.
In her later years, she finally found her soul mate, Bernie Gillis, to whom she referred as her Angel on Earth.
Irene also enjoyed reading, sunbathing, and family kitchen parties, where you would happily find her clapping along and dancing to the music.
She is survived by her loving companion Bernie Gillis, daughter Kimberley, son Cory (Rosanne), Sydney Mines, sisters Carolyn (Mickey), Delores (Malcom), Mable (Alex), brothers Cornelius (Betty), James (Debbie), Johnny (Judy), Clifford, Lawrence and Eric.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Alyssa, Cameron, Dwayne, Damon, Mikayla, Hannah and Autumn, her great-grandson Jayce, whom she loved and adored with her whole heart, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers William and Eric, and her grandson Connor, who she missed deeply.
Visitation for Irene Whitty will be held Monday, September 19, 2022, from 2-4 pm in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday, at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
