HOWERY, Frieda
April 24, 1929 — May 13, 2022
Devoted Wife. Loving Mother. God’s Ambassador.
Frieda was born in Coronation, Alberta, the eighth of ten children born to John and Friedaricka Motz, and the first to be born in Canada after her parents emigrated from Bessarabia, Romania. She had a happy, carefree childhood surrounded by lots of family. An avid student, she attended a one-room school not far from her farm and graduated high school from Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. After moving to BC for a year to help her newly-widowed sister, she moved to Hanna, Alberta, and worked in the Hanna Hospital, then in the Royal Bank there. She met her husband, Harold, in the Alliance Church youth group. They were married on May 23, 1953, and spent 58 happy years together until his death in 2011. They loved to work and play together, with business ventures including their Modern Service Station and the Hanna Variety Store, before moving to Winfield, BC, in 1969. Their ventures continued with the sales of Golden Products. She also set up new accounts for Sears and The Bay, gathered forms for the Census Commission, worked as a Care Aide, and for Wild ‘n Wet Waterslide (owned by her sister and brother-in-law). After retirement, Frieda and Harold enjoyed the business of garage sales and marketing fruit and vegetables to and from Alberta, as well as being Kelowna Airport Ambassadors for many years. They also loved to travel over the years, whether it was exploring various spots all across Canada, or travelling farther afield through the United States or touring Europe. Frieda spent her entire life in service to the Lord in various ministries in the Alliance Church and as a Gideon. When she wasn’t working, Frieda enjoyed playing Scrabble, making countless quilts, baking, canning, collecting salt & pepper shakers, writing short children’s stories and entertaining guests. But Frieda’s greatest earthly joy by far was her family, always attending as many events as possible to support her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered by her son Rod (Lil) Howery, her daughter Dorothy (Tim) Goode, and her daughter Brendalee (Kevin) Robinson. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jocelyn (Jon) Howery, Josh (Jackie) Goode, Amy Geistlinger, Kasey (Kyle) van Sickle, Rylee Robinson, and Grace Robinson. She was a special “G.G.” to Eli, Kaylee, Aubrey, Taylen, Brantley, and Max. She shared a special bond with her one remaining sibling, Lil (Ken) Anderson, and was a very beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2022, at 1:00 PM, at the LAKE COUNTRY ALLIANCE CHURCH, 12025 Oceola Rd, Lake Country, BC.
