Agnes’ family is ready to gather to celebrate her life. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 12:00pm from St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, with interment to follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.

The family of Helen Agnes (Shannon) McNeill Payne is very sad to share the news of her passing. Mom was born on April 14, 1938, in Saint John to Gerard and Isabelle (Craig) Shannon. Mom grew up in the North End on Harrison Street. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel.
She was predeceased by our dad, John Peter McNeill in 2002. Mom leaves behind her husband and loving companion, Gordon “Buzz” Payne and her best friends and loving daughters, Brenda (Tom) Keenan of Saint John, Karen (Bruce) Foster of Moncton and her son, Jim (Shannon) of North Carolina. Also going to miss their nan are her much loved grandchildren, Sean Keenan (Jessica Whitehouse), Travis Foster (Tanis Trainor), Samantha Butler (Geoffrey), Kelsey Foster (Gabriel LeVert) and Isabella McNeill.
Mom is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Paisley, Patricia Robinson McMahon (Shawn), Teresa (Ed) Kiervin and brother, Donald Shannon (Martina). Also, her brother-in-law, Dan McNeill (Barbara) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Gerry and his wife, Helen Shannon, brothers-in-law, Frank and Joe McNeill, Wayne Robinson, Darrell Paisley and niece, Dawn Bates.
In 2012, Mom married Gordon “Buzz” Payne and joined his family, Gwynn (Manford) Boye and Krista (Simon) Blaikie and their children, Sarah and Kyrsti Boye and Brynne and Connor Blaikie. Also, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Payne Craig and Norma Ellis.
Mom joined the Red Hats/Dazzling Dames ladies’ group after Dad passed. These ladies gave Mom new life with their fun activities and outings. She always appreciated their companionship.
Mom loved spending her summers at the cottage (Aunt Theresa and Uncle Burns) in Oak Bay. Mom enjoyed a trip to Europe with her Dad as well as Christmas shopping trips to Bangor with him and Dot and birthday siblings lunch where brother Don always paid. Mom loved to travel, cruises with Pat and the Shannon gang, California, Vegas, Florida with Dan and Barb, Ireland with the McNeill group. In later years, she enjoyed winters in Texas with Buzz and Elizabeth.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in the Spring followed by interment in St. Augustine’s Catholic Cemetery. Donations in her memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, the Lung Association of Canada or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by her family.
