Nous regrettons d’annoncer le décès de Georgette Couture, à l’âge de 98 ans, le lundi 29 août 2022, au foyer Extendicare Kapuskasing. Née Georgette Ouellette le 12 février 1924 à Bonfield, Georgette a déménagé à Harty en 1934. Elle a épousé Fernand Couture le 17 août 1942, puis l’a accompagné à Orillia, où Fernand était en formation avec les Forces armées canadiennes.
Quand Fernand s’est embarqué pour l’Europe, Georgette est retournée à Harty, chez ses parents, avec son bébé, Marcel, pour la durée de la guerre. À Harty, elle était membre active de l’UCFO et très impliquée dans les activités de la paroisse Saint-Stanislas. Elle a élevé six enfants qu’elle aimait tendrement : Marcel (Chantal), Gilbert (Irène), Michelle Veilleux (Claude) de Hearst, Carmen Madill (Edwin), Gilles (Carole) de Kitigan, et Jean-Pierre (Véronique) de Val-Rita.
Attentive et à l’écoute des autres, cette grande dame n’hésitait jamais à leur venir en aide. Pieuse et croyante, elle puisait sa force dans la prière. Les mouvements La Vie Montante et Portes Ouvertes l’ont réconfortée beaucoup suite au décès de Fernand. Accueillante, elle se plaisait à nourrir ses invités par de succulents repas, ou par des sandwiches et Kool-Aid® lorsque les enfants étaient plus jeunes.
Georgette possédait un bon sens d’humour et aimait faire de petites taquineries aux membres de la famille, souvent avec de l’eau ou de la crème fouettée. Parmi ses passe-temps, on retrouve le tricot, le crochet, les cartes, et le jeu de galets au Centre de l’âge d’or. Cependant, son activité préférée était d’amuser ses petits-enfants et arrière-petits-enfants, dont elle était tellement fière.
Georgette était la grand-maman adorée de Marie-Josée (Marcel Payant), Jean-Marc (Sarah Teasdale) d’Ottawa, Pierre Veilleux (Sophie Cossette) de Hearst, Alain Veilleux (Nancy) de Saint-Isidore, Alexis Madill d’Ottawa, André (Julie) de Timmins, Geneviève (Danny Meilleur) de Val-Rita, David (Estelle) de Yellowknife, Erik Tourigny de Timmins, et Natalie T. Beaulieu (Steve) de Kitigan. Elle manquera grandement à ses arrière-petits-enfants : Genève, Yanik, Caleb, Jacob, Cédrik, Noah, Charlie, Jade, Maude, André, Maude, Ty, Abi, Gabriel, Xavier, Jacob, Samuel, Logan, Madison, Hailey, et Annabelle.
Georgette laisse aussi des frères et sœurs qui l’ont bien aimée : Thérèse Ouellette de Montréal, Claudette Millette d’Ottawa, Jacqueline Sigouin et Richard Ouellette (Jacynthe Laforge) de Kapuskasing, et Jean-Jacques Ouellette (Huguette) de Rockland. Elle fut prédécédée par son mari, Fernand, en 1993; son fils, Marcel Couture; son petit-fils, Angus Madill; ainsi que par ses frères : Octave, Vital, Maurice et Marius Ouellette; et sa sœur, Rita Tremblay.
La famille est très reconnaissante des soins professionnels, prodigués avec compassion par le personnel dévoué du foyer Extendicare Kapuskasing.
Un service funéraire pour Georgette aura lieu le jeudi 1 septembre 2022, à 10h30, en l’église Immaculée-Conception, avec Père Rémi Lessard comme célébrant. L’inhumation suivra au cimetière de Harty.
Comme témoignages de sympathie, la famille sera très reconnaissante de dons à la Fondation de l’Hôpital Sensenbrenner ou une autre œuvre de charité locale.
We regret to announce the death of Georgette Couture on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the age of 98 years, at Extendicare Kapuskasing. Born Georgette Ouellette on February 12, 1924, in Bonfield, Georgette moved to Harty in 1934. She married Fernand Couture on August 17, 1942, then accompanied him to Orillia, where Fernand was in training for the Canadian Armed Forces.
When Fernand left for the war in Europe, Georgette returned to Harty to her parents’ home, with her baby, Marcel, for the duration of the war. During her decades in Harty, she was a member of the UCFO and was very active in the activities of the St. Stanislas parish. She raised six children whom she loved dearly: Marcel (Chantal), Gilbert (Irène), Michelle Veilleux (Claude) of Hearst, Carmen Madill (Edwin), Gilles (Carole) of Kitigan, and Jean-Pierre (Véronique) of Val Rita.
This wonderful lady was always attentive to others’ needs and was devoted to serving others. She was also grateful to others who helped her, even in small ways. Devout and firm in her faith, she drew her strength from prayer. The movements La Vie Montante and Portes Ouvertes gave her great comfort following the death of Fernand. Always hospitable, she took pleasure in feeding her family and her guests, whether with succulent meals or with sandwiches and Kool-Aid® when her children were young. She made everyone feel welcome.
Georgette had a great sense of humour and enjoyed playing little jokes on family members, often with water or whipped cream. Among her hobbies and pastimes were knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and playing shuffleboard at the Golden Age Centre. However, the activity she loved most was playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom she was so proud.
Georgette was the adored grandmother of: Marie-Josée (Marcel Payant), Jean-Marc (Sarah Teasdale) of Ottawa, Pierre Veilleux (Sophie Cossette) of Hearst, Alain Veilleux (Nancy) of Saint-Isidore, Alexis Madill of Ottawa, André (Julie) of Timmins, Geneviève (Danny Meilleur) of Val Rita, David (Estelle) of Yellowknife, Erik Tourigny of Timmins, and Natalie T. Beaulieu (Steve) of Kitigan. She will be missed by her great-grandchildren: Genève, Yanik, Caleb, Jacob, Cédrik, Noah, Charlie, Jade, Maude, André, Maude, Ty, Abi, Gabriel, Xavier, Jacob, Samuel, Logan, Madison, Hailey, and Annabelle.
Georgette also leaves brothers and sisters who loved her dearly: Thérèse Ouellette of Montréal, Claudette Millette of Ottawa, Jacqueline Sigouin and Richard Ouellette (Jacynthe Laforge) of Kapuskasing, and Jean-Jacques Ouellette (Huguette) of Rockland. She was predeceased by her husband, Fernand, in 1993; her son, Marcel; her grandson, Angus Madill; and by her brothers: Octave, Vital, Maurice and Marius Ouellette; as well as her sister, Rita Tremblay.
The family greatly appreciates the professional and compassionate care provided to Georgette by the dedicated staff at Extendicare Kapuskasing.
A funeral service will be held for Georgette on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at Immaculée-Conception Church, with Father Rémi Lessard officiating. Burial will follow at Harty Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, the family will greatly appreciate donations to the Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation or to another local charity.
