Evan John Lewis

Beloved dad and grandad, E. John S. Lewis passed away at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary at the age of 92 years. John was predeceased by the love of his life Joan in 2016, and he missed her terribly after she died. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his daughter Joni-Lynn (Peter) Talbot, his grandson Lewis Talbot, his brother David Lewis, his sister Jean Sampson, and his numerous
nieces and nephews.
Born in Canmore to parents Evan and Jean Lewis, John lived an enviable life in a loving family of seven brothers and three sisters.
John loved living in Canmore as a child and young adult and
often said that for a young boy his life was idyllic.
John moved to Calgary to join the Calgary Police Service in 1953, shortly before he and Joan were married. They spent 63 happy and loving years together raising their daughter and traveling. John so enjoyed being a police officer and spent 30 years on the force, retiring in 1983. He had enormous satisfaction from helping others and he had numerous life long friends from the service. His closest friend Wick McQueen were partners in the Detective Division for many years until Wick’s recent death. John also loved going to poker night with fellow retirees which was a regular feature in his life for many years.
John will be remembered for his kindness, his pragmatism, his problem solving skills, his will power, and his direct way of facing life’s hurdles. A great man who was strong, selfless, determined, reliable and loving. Truly one in a billion. He will be dearly missed by his remaining family and friends. A great light has been extinguished.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 11 am in the Ralph Connor United Church in Canmore. He will be laid to rest with his wife in the Canmore Cemetery.
