Obituary
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of my dad, Ernie Sykes yesterday AM, on December 15, 2022. He was 77 years old.
Dad had a devastating heart attack and as he suffered from Parkinson’s disease and was very frail, the doctors were unable to save him. He held on for over a week so that his family could say goodbye and I was fortunate enough to be in BC last week and spend some time with him. We will miss him terribly this Christmas and wish him peace in his final rest.
Dad was an amazing human. He was a self taught musician and seemed to be able to play any instrument he touched. He sang often and wrote music. He created the Penticton Folk Club and loved folk music. He was a pilot, building us a 4 seater when I was a child. I still have dreams of flying in that tiny plane with my dad. He was a magician and often embarrassed his children by pulling coins out of friends ears. He worked passionately on genealogy and family history. I will put a link to a performance in the comments where he sings a song he wrote where he combined his love of family history and music into a beautiful song. He was smart, witty, caring and talented. He loved to talk, loved watching anything WWII related. He loved model trains and was a member of the Okanagan Southern Model Railway Club. His legacy will live on in his 5 children and 8 grandchildren.
He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Pauline Sykes. Please send her love and light as she navigates the world without him for the first time. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, prayed, called, texted, sent flowers and meals. Lots of love to you!
