Dr. Frederic Vosburg
BA, D.D.S. FICD, FACD, Asst. Professor McGill University
Peacefully, on Thursday, August 11, 2022, in his one hundredth year. Beloved husband of the late Lois Pearson (z”l) for sixty-four years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Carol Vosburg Grubert and Nolan Grubert, Alan Vosburg and Heather Marovitz. Loving grandfather of Margot, and Madeline Grubert; Jonah, and Felicia Vosburg. Fred will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, friends, students, colleagues, patients, and his longtime mentee, Joanne Lambrinos Fratiotis.
‘Doctor Fred’, as he was called by friends, students, colleagues, and patients, was born in 1923, in Brooklyn, New York, to Isadore Vosberg (z”l) and Alice Levy Vosberg (z”l). His family immigrated to Montreal when he was thirteen. He attended Willingdon Elementary School and West Hill High School. As WWII broke, he set aside his studies at McGill University and enlisted in the US army ahead of his draft call that came later that year. He became a commissioned officer in the United States Armed Forces, served in Japan and was decommissioned as a First Lieutenant.
Upon returning to Montreal, Fred resumed his studies at McGill and entered the Dental School. After graduating and setting up his practice, he met and married Lois and started a family. He gave his time to the community serving as a Clinical Demonstrator at the Jewish General Hospital, and later, as an Associate Professor at McGill University, Faculty of Dentistry.
Fred authored numerous articles for dental publications and taught courses on Geriatrics and Patient Care for those suffering from mental illness. He was a past President of Alpha Omega fraternity (Mount Royal chapter) as well as past Regent of Quebec and Ontario. He was honoured with the awarding of the Fellowship of the International College of Dentistry, F.I.C.D. in 1979, and the Fellowship of the American College of Dentistry F.A.C.D. in 1992. Heartfelt gratitude to Shawn Fremeth and the staff of Baycrest Terraces, where he lived independently from 2019, as well as Fred’s social worker, nurses, caregivers, and Dr. Gili Rosen for their exceptional care and compassion.
Graveside service on Sunday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m., at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery, 1250 ch. de la Forêt. Shiva private. Contributions in his memory can be made to the “Dr. Frederic Vosburg Memorial Fund for Baycrest Terraces” c/o Baycrest Foundation, (416) 785-2875.
