Obituary of Doris Mary Flecknell
It is with sadness that the family of Doris Mary Flecknell announce her passing, which occurred on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Petitcodiac, NB, on September 25, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Marion (Dunn) Clarke.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, Robert Flecknell; daughters: Laura Langdon (Bruce), Melissa LeMay (Guy), and Sue MacDonald (Blair); grandchildren: Celeste, Adam, Kyle, Ben, Luc, and Matthew; great-grandchild, Vivian; brother, Robert Clarke (Debbie); and brother-in-law, Kenny Flecknell.
Mom raised three girls while dad sailed the deep blue seas. We are pretty sure she raised more than us as there were always children floating around our base apartment in Dartmouth, NS. Mom loved spending her time playing Bingo, with Rosie, and taking walks from Shannon Park to KFC to get a chicken burger. Every summer mom would make the commute with us girls from Dartmouth to Bloomfield, NB. We spent our summers there until we eventually moved to New Brunswick full time. She would wake up and spend her days in the blueberry fields beside her house, but the funny thing was that she didn’t eat blueberries until the last couple of years. For mom, there was something about the peacefulness of being down in the fields and finding that perfect “loaded” tree.
Mom loved her trips to Maine and finding that special gift for her grandchildren. She loved to host Christmas Eve and we are pretty sure that everyone looked forward to that night all year. She loved being around her family, which was the most important thing to her. Her heart would smile when everyone was together, getting along, and happy.
We are going to miss you, Mom! You were always the glue that kept us together. Your love, values, compassion, and strength live through your kids. We are so proud of the fight you fought, but it was time to let you go. You will forever be missed and loved by your family.
Our family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Region Hospital, especially Dr. Hemmings and nurse Jenn, for the care and compassion that was shown to our mom and our family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. All funeral services will be held privately. There will be an interment at Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield, NB, at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Bobby’s Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
