Doris’ Obituary
Doris Lukinuk passed away at the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, on February 9, 2022, at the age of 97 years.
Doris was born on October 5, 1924, in the Theodore District, SK, to Simeon and Maria (Loposchuk) Kuzek. She attended and received her education from Chernowetz School, north of Theodore, SK.
In the forties, men were in the army and women took to stooking, threshing, making hay, and a lot of babysitting and household duties. A hard worker all her life, Doris worked for some farm families for a few years, then in Yorkton until 1947, when she met and married Bill Lukinuk. Doris and Bill were blessed with two children, Ronald and Gloria. Together, for the next sixteen years, they farmed in the Drobot District, SK, prior to their move to Canora in 1963.
In Canora, Doris worked full time for the next seventeen years. She also continued to work sewing and as a dress maker, a gifted talent she shared with her community for over sixty-four years. Through this, Doris touched the lives of many people in Canora and many surrounding towns. She also did a lot of baking kolachi and wedding breads. In her early retirement, she played cards and Bingo with her friends. When it came time to completely retire and wind up her seamstress duties, even her sewing machine was sad. Doris started to feel the weakness in many ways.
In 2014, she sold her house and moved to Quill Lake, SK, to be closer to family. She felt it was a good move and provided her with the time to read the Bible and the Senior’s Paper. She also enjoyed baking cookies for others to enjoy.
Doris left a lasting imprint on anyone she encountered and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Simeon and Maria; her husband, Bill; son, Ronald; brothers: Bill, George, Peter, Nick, John, and Metro; sisters, Katie Kuzek, Rose Kautzman, Elsie Rogers, and Eva Stewart; and her sister-in-law, Sophie Kuzek.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Floyd) Dergousoff; daughter-in-law, Betty (Len); grandchildren: Klarke Dergousoff, Brock (Jennifer) Dergousoff, and Scott (Kristina) Lukinuk; great-grandchildren: Alex, Hillary, Maren, Morgan, Jazmin, Rachel, Alexis, and Brayden; brother, Steve (Vera) Kuzek; and sisters-in-law, Pat Kuzek and Mary Kuzek; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 14, 2022, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Petro Tsenov officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery.
Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, SK, or to the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Doris Lukinuk.
