Doris Kirkland

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our Mother, Doris Kirkland (Hodak), of Calgary, Alberta. She passed away peacefully with family by her side at the age of 86.
She is predeceased by her husband, our father, George Hodak, and her 2 brothers, Freddy, and Wilfred.
Doris is truly missed by her 3 children, Shirley (Al) Sweet, Dan (Julie) Hodak, and Avis Lewkowicz; seven grandchildren, Richard (Kirsten) Sweet, Erin Sweet, Shane (Ana) Hodak, Alicia (Jeremiah) Saunders, Jordan (Kate) Hodak, Vanessa (Brandon) Cross, and Ashley Lewkowicz; seven great-grandchildren, Jayla and Kyler Sweet, April Saunders, Luca, Jaylee and Kenzie Cross, and Rylan Hodak. She also leaves behind her partner of 23 years, Bernie Flanagan, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Our Mother was very social and loved to stop and chat with people. She is remembered for her kindness, sensitivity, and gentle friendly heart. Doris was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her infectious smile, laughter, and sense of humour brought light to everyone around her. Her wisdom and compassion will live on in our hearts and she will be greatly missed and forever cherished.
She loved baking (her brownies and lemon meringue pie were always family favourites), reading, playing cards, and dancing at the legion.
It brings all her family great comfort to know she is at peace now doing the twist with the angels, laughing often, and crying tears of joy as we honour her memory.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
