Donald Sterns Webster Inspector RCMP, Ret’d, Chief of Police City of Charlottetown,Ret’d
1936-2022
On Thursday, August
25, 2022, Donald Webster, 86, of Charlottetown, was freed from pain
and discharged from his earthly duties, to sleep in
stars.
Don will be fondly
remembered for an ever-present twinkle in his eye, the overwhelming
love and pride he had for his family, a voice too gruff for a man so
mild, and a smile that brightened any room in which he saw a
friend.
Don is survived by his
best friend and wife of 62 years, Barbara (Miller). He was the dear
father of Steven Webster (deceased) and Kevin Webster (Edmonton,
AB) and grandfather to Kelsey (Montreal, QC) and Sam. Don was
pre-deceased by his parents, Sterns and Margaret (Acorn), and sisters
Joan Demers (Lee) and Nalda Wheeler (Bruce). He will be lovingly
remembered by his sister Lena (Picky) (Ray Campbell) and
daughter-in-law Sandra.
In his memoir, Steven
wrote:
Dad was a pretty
important guy in the RCMP and was driven to be as successful as
possible. In order to do this, he had to continue to move forward in
the forces. Anyone who knows anything about the RCMP knows this is
code for: we moved around a lot when we were growing up. By the time I
was ten, we’d lived in ten different places—from
Inuvik (for the non-geographically-fluent, that is pretty close to
where Santa Claus lives) to Canada’s East coast in Cape
Breton and pretty much everywhere in
between.
On that note, Don will
be missed by friends and colleagues from coast to coast to
coast.
Don’s son
Kevin was also quoted in Steve’s memoir,
saying:
Dad was a professional
interrogator. You couldn’t get away with lying to him. (It
also didn’t help matters that he was an RCMP officer and
they have meetings where they bring up things like noise complaints
and parties. He would have heard that there was a report of one at his
own address. We weren’t all that
wise.)
Both of his sons would
agree that Don will be remembered as a fair, patient, and kind man,
who loved with his whole heart and lived for summer days at the
cottage with his favourite people. He will be
missed.
Barb wishes to thank
the nurses, doctors, and staff at the QEH for their attentive care and
support.
Visiting hours are
Monday, August 29th from 4-7 PM at Hennessey Cutcliffe Funeral Home.
Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 10:30 AM at the Holy
Redeemer Catholic Parish Church.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations can be made to the QEH
Foundation.
“When you sleep my friend
Sleep in stars
Walk up Orion
Slide down the Big Dipper
But whether near or far, sleep in stars.”
