Obituary
McGuire, Darrell John – It is with unbearable sadness we announce the passing of our adored husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend on April 24, 2022, in Kelowna. Darrell left peacefully in his wife Shelley’s embrace, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
His boundless energy, youthful passion, charisma, and wisdom made him a magnetic force that impacted everyone he met. Whether he was speaking to tens of thousands of people in Madison Square Garden, playing DJ, or telling hilarious stories at parties, his showmanship
left an imprint on everyone present. He was the ultimate “people person”.
He was the consummate businessman. On the rare occasion, if he didn’t already have an educated opinion on whatever you were discussing, he would have by the time you finished the conversation. Darrell had incredible attention to detail and would remember previous facts about you and then circle back to that conversation thoughtfully and with genuine interest. He was a mentor to many and cherished his Teams. Generous to a fault, he shared everything in his life with his circle of genuine, loving friends.
Full of adventure, Darrell traveled the world on business; scuba diving in Australia, golfing at St. Andrews, skiing in Whistler, partying with rock stars, and generally spending each day “going a hundred miles an hour with his hair on fire” as he would say. He timelessly embodied that growing old is unavoidable but growing up is optional. His mindset was to always “make it a great day” and he lived that to the end.
He leaves behind his Soulmate Shelley, his parents Michael and Amelia, his beloved children; Brandon (Sarah), his “little pumpkin” Mikala (Connor), and stepchildren; Erik (Caitlyn), Axel (Taige), and Stephanie (Tyson), his sister Trish (Bob), and many: uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends across the globe.
“You promised to make me laugh every day, and you lived up to that promise. The sun will never shine as brightly, and the sky will never be as blue without your beautiful presence my love.»
A Celebration of Darrell’s life will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, donations to the KGH Foundation may be made “In Honour/Memory/Celebration of Darrell”.
