Dan passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on April 1st, 2022, in Nakusp BC. He was 66 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Marie, their daughter Melissa (Brad), and son Jason, grandchildren Sierra, Jaelyn, Ella and Carson. Also mourning his passing are his siblings: Jennifer, Marilyn, Susan, Judy and George, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Norma Paul.
Dan was born in Sudbury, Ontario, but did most of his growing up in Montreal, where he had a very busy life. He played in a rock band in high school, rode a motorcycle and had a large group of friends. He enrolled in a college forestry program after high school and it was there where he found his calling. After graduating, he and Anne Marie headed out west to Vancouver, BC, in 1978, where he had no trouble finding work in the forestry industry, as a registered forest technician. Dan and Anne Marie kindly opened their house to many friends and family, who had also headed out west to seek their fortunes. Two children later, the family moved to Campbell River and then to Sechelt, where Dan continued to work in the forest industry. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed driving the crew boat to remote work locations. The family finally settled in Nakusp, where they bought a home on an acreage and enjoyed life in a small town.
Dan retired in 2009, but he didn’t slow down. He spent his time golfing, skiing, hunting, and building and fixing things. He could repair almost anything and prided himself in never buying anything new. He refinished the kitchen in their house, building all new cabinets himself. What he enjoyed most of all was camping with his kids and grandkids. The camper was loaded onto their truck in early Spring and stayed there until October. Grampa Dan always had ice cream in the freezer of the camper and treated all the kids to a cone whenever they went camping. Dan was also an excellent cook. His roast beef dinners, with all the fixings were a favourite, as well as his homemade cookies.
Dan found a new passion in the last few years as he put his heart and soul into legally growing cannabis. His patience and perseverance were rewarded in October, 2021 when the first legal crop was harvested from Arrow Lakes Sungrown Cannabis. Dan had big plans for this operation and was excited about the future. Dan was taken away from us way too soon, but he will always be remembered in our hearts, as a caring and generous soul.
