It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Charles Rudolf Trenka, in his 81st year. Charles is survived by his loving wife Diane (nee Paterson) of 56 years, his sister Kathleen (of Uxbridge), his two daughters Kristina (John) and Tanya (Dave) and his two granddaughters Grace and Elise. Charles was born in Toronto to Charles and Paula (Brindza) Trenka. He graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. He started his career at CIL, working in several locations throughout the country. In 1972, Charles moved to Sudbury and started working for the Ministry of Labour under the mining safety and health division. His specialty was hoists, contributing to a number of safety guidelines. After retiring in 2001 he was fortunate to continue his travels throughout Canada and Europe with Diane. Charles was an avid walker which gained him notoriety around town as he was known to snowshoe across Lake Ramsay, to get to work in the colder months. He was passionate about his various hobbies such as music (especially Beethoven), building Meccano models, and exploring different microbrews. He also worked as a volunteer for Science North for many years. Charles enjoyed spending his summers traveling to the various music festivals across the province. At this point in time there are no plans for a visitation or service. If desired, supporting local charities are welcomed. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes.
