Charles Calvin Christie
1936-2022
Christie, Charles Calvin
« Cal »
Of Guelph, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, in his
87th year. Cal was the son of Charles Oliver
Christie of Guelph, a veteran of the trenches of WWI with the Guelph
Battalion Special Draft 55 RCFA and Annie May Newstead, who was raised
on a farm in Eramosa Township.
He was the much loved husband of Janice Gwendolyn Christie
(nee Armstrong) for 60 years. Loving and loved father of Carrin
Barbara Christie (Ymir, BC). Doting and adored grandfather of Jackson
Christie-Kerr (Ymir, BC). Loving and loved father of Charles Tobin
Christie (Labrador City, NFL). Cal was the brother of the
late Judy King d. 1983 (Frank) and the late Joan Brown d. 2022 (Robert
d. 1975), Curzon (Dennis d. 1945).
Cal was born and grew up in Guelph, attending Alexandra and
Central Public Schools and GCVI, graduating in 1953 from the technical
program. His first job was with the Leland Electric Company of Guelph
in the Engineering Dept. and later the Drafting Dept. and the Dewalt
Division. After 8 years he joined IBM as a sales representative in the
Office Products Division having a successful career there in managing
sales territories in Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo and later
Guelph.
He was a long time faithful member of Knox Presbyterian
Church, Guelph and sang in the choir for many years. Cal was also a
founding member of the Guelph Male Choir singing in the baritone
section.
Woodworking was his favourite hobby. He eventually had to
build a workshop in the backyard as Janice didn’t care for
all the dust and machine noise he was creating in the
house.
When fishing and hunting seasons opened, he would be found
with his kindred spirit buddies visiting the lakes and forests of our
beautiful province Ontario. His other interests included membership in
the Masonic Order having served as Master of Wyndham Lodge No. 688
Guelph and a term as Deputy Grand Master of Wellington Masonic
District. He loved Guelph and his home in Guelph and all his lifelong
friends. The family would like to thank his health care team
who helped us carry out his quest to be at home.
A Masonic and funeral service will be held at the
GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre
& Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Thursday
June 30 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Trillium Room.
Memorial contributions to Knox
Presbyterian Church, 20 Quebec St. Guelph, N1H 2T4 or to the Arbor

be appreciated. We
