Catherine «Cathy»‘s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Cathy Brown (nee Stanton) announce her passing on April 8th, 2022 at home, overlooking her beloved flower garden. She was born November 19th, 1954 in Saint John, New Brunswick where she spent her childhood years. After high school, Cathy attended Universite Saint Anne on the French Shore Digby Co. She eventually would move to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia where she would start her family.
Cathy lived in various communities throughout her life including Bridgewater, Bedford, Fredericton, Stellarton, and Dartmouth. She worked as an administrative assistant for various organizations, ending her career with the RCMP in Dartmouth. No matter where she lived she made deep and long lasting relationships with her kindness, generosity, beautiful smile and great sense of fun.
She was quite proud of the fact that she had become proficient in French and would use it at every chance. She made many long lasting friends in the community and returned to Clare in her retirement years to tend to her prized flower gardens, which seem to grow bigger and more beautiful every year, to the detriment of Tim’s vegetable patch.
Cathy has a talent for flower arranging and took great pleasure and satisfaction in donating her creations to friends and family who needed a little boost to their spirits.
She always looked forward to the yearly reunion of the “Fast Lane Ladies”, a tradition she kept up since the early 80’s. As well, Cathy made many long lasting friendships through Bedford United Church.
In 2008, she married an old university friend, Tim. Both retiring in 2011, they spent their winters beachside in Daytona Beach Shores. Cathy enjoyed her daily swim in the Atlantic to the amazement of her more timid southern friends. Upon her return to Cranberry Lake, she devoted her time to her gardens and her 5 Star Airbnb. She was quite proud of her “Superhost” rating and truly enjoyed meeting the guests and wowing them with her thoughtful hospitality, flower gardens and fresh produce from the vegetable patch.
She was fortunate to love and hold her two granddaughters, Norah and Grace, whom meant the world to her.
Cathy was predeceased by her first husband, (Lawerence) David Brown; and her aunt, Dorothea (Dot) Moore, whom she cared for in Aunt Dot’s later years. She is survived by her husband, Tim Surette; son, Derek Brown (Chantelle) of Calgary; daughter, Jana van de Vrie (Scott) of Calgary; and grandchildren, Norah, Grace and baby due April 19.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the VON, Feed Nova Scotia and Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
