Predeceased by brother-in-law Cyril and sisters-in-law Kay (Tony) Fahlman, Loretta Johnston, Louise (Ted) Galecki and Angela Pulham. Survived by special and loved niece Valerie Sirois and close friend Yvonne Sutton in Australia. Carrol is loved by and fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Carrol was born in Cudworth, Saskatchewan where her father had a law practice. After he died in 1950, at the young age of 52, the task of raising the four youngest children fell on the shoulders of her mother. While working part time to help support the family, Carrol attended and graduated from Sion Academy High School in Saskatoon. After graduating from Saskatoon Teachers College, the following year she started teaching at the primary level in Saskatoon. She continued this teaching until her marriage to Herbert in 1964 in Saskatoon. After Herb’s five years of study and teaching at the University of Michigan they moved to Ontario in 1971 where Carrol volunteered for various organizations and was an avid supporter of her son’s hockey teams. Carrol continued in education while her children grew up by occasional supply teaching in Dundas and Hamilton. In 1987, through a volunteer job, she found her real work love, teaching E. S. L. (English as a Second Language). In 1989, she accepted a part-time position to teach E.S.L., then taught full-time until she retired in 2005 to be a full-time grandma to her three grandchildren. She, somewhat reluctantly at times, participated in the many camping trips her family took. An incentive was to promise to take a good supply of white wine. Many trips to Florida, special trips to Australia, and three trips to Europe were special times shared with family members and their spouses’ relatives in Germany, Austria, Italy and Ukraine. The Blue Jays and Raptors lost a special fan, rarely missing watching a game during her Covid and cancer journey. Walking and exercising, working on crafts and doing crossword puzzles were a big part of her life until the later stages of her cancer journey. She loved the family dog, Brandy, for 18 years but vowed to not get another one after he passed. She loved visits from her granddogs Ollie, Vuarnet and Oakley.
