Carla Ann Florence Matthies Schaus Monday December 12th 2022 avis de deces

After a brief and valiant fight, Carla passed away on December 12, 2022, in her 82nd year. Carla is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years, Bob Matthies. The two made an incredible team, wherever one was, you were sure to see the other following closely behind.
Carla will be dearly missed by her three best friends, her daughters, Kim (Pete) Burgess, Cheryl (Mike) Carlo & Susan (Ralph) Hogg.
Stepmother to Lori & Kelly.
She will be forever remembered and loved by her three grandchildren, Robbie (Victoria) Carlo, Brett (Sarah) Carlo and Brianne (Cody) Brown (nee Hogg).
Carla had begun her journey as Great Grandma or GG as we called her, these little ones brought so much light and joy into the last few years of her life. GG will live on in the eyes of her three cherished great grandchildren, Thatcher Brown, Adelaide & Grayson Carlo.
Although Carla’s passing has left hearts broken down here on earth, her family finds peace in knowing she has been reunited in Heaven with her late grandson Bryce Hogg (2013) and her parents Jeanette & Carl Schaus.
Carla’s family would like to thank all the kind and compassionate nurses, staff & doctors who cared for her throughout her stay at Guelph General Hospital. A special thanks to Dr. Kotalik, Dr. Hood and Dr. Hoey for working so hard to keep her comfortable.
To honor Carla’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family & friends beach service will be held in Grand Bend at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to a charity near and dear to Carla’s heart, Guelph-Wellington Women In Crisis.
Carla was the only child of Jeanette & Carl, she was born and raised in Kitchener where she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and St. Mary’s Highschool. Life moved her and her family to Guelph in the 1960’s where she raised her daughters and eventually met the love of her life Bob. Bob and Carla were proud members of Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph.
There were not many people’s lives that Carla entered and didn’t leave an imprint on, she was such a youthful, kind, gentle and humble soul. She always put others before herself, especially her family and friends. Carla showed her love through her words, writing and sending the perfect cards for every occasion. She enjoyed spending days with Bob thrift shopping, picking out cute and meaningful items to gift to her family and friends. She shared her love of books and reading with her daughters and granddaughter and began to fill her great grandchildren’s shelves with many cute books she had found along her Thrift Store travels.
Carla was a vibrant social butterfly, and although for years her body hindered her, she never allowed her immobility to define her or hold her back. You would never know that Carla lived each day in pain, she never led on, she would tell everyone “I’m fine”, kept moving and spreading her social wings. Carla will be forever missed at her many social events, lunch bunch, gabby girls, weekly coffee & Sunday lunches. Carla had an amazing group of friends who she cherished so deeply and spoke so fondly of. She will be deeply missed by all her dearest friends.
Carla loved the big city, her and Bob spent a few months a year in Toronto and later Peterborough around Christmas while Bob was working as Santa. During their stays, you could find her parked on a bench somewhere in the massive mall just taking in all the people and the lights. Carla was in her glory! The beach was another one of her favorite places as well as around a backyard fire, these places are where she found her peace and serenity.
We miss you so much already grandma, you were our rock, our light and our biggest cheerleader. Life will never be the same without you, but we promise to keep smiling, keep moving and keep living life to its fullest. We will speak of you often to our children and tell them all the stories of their GG, reminding them always how much you loved them.
Love you to the moon and way way back Grandma.
