Burton Roderick Forbes Friday April 29th 2022

Forbes, Burton Roderick (68) – Yarmouth, N.S. Burton met his Lord and Saviour on Friday, April 29th, 2022 and we’re quite sure Heaven hasn’t been the same since. Burton is probably playing the spoons in the choir, figuring out where the farm animals are, and certainly rejoicing with his beloved family members and friends gone on before. Burton was a faithful Christian, humble of spirit, with generosity for all. He loved the Lord, was grateful for every mercy he received, and often had an encouraging word for others. His nieces and nephews never entered his presence without his demand to “Come hug your favorite uncle!” Kids and grandkids squealed when he threatened to get out his “Shillelagh stick”, but were never afraid of this gentle giant who wrapped us all in bear hugs and kissed our foreheads. The family table was a constant state of hysterics, being regaled by Burt’s storytelling and dry wit. He often maintained a straight face while those around him were crying with laughter. Burton had a deep love for his family that we will dearly miss. Burton moved to Sankey Manor last year, and he was always so touched and grateful when friends and former coworkers stopped by Parade Street to have a chat or bring him a treat. Burton received a certificate for 40 years of service at Scotia Garden Seafoods where he made many, many friends, and worked for a time in his youth at H. V. Anthony Greenhouses. His passion was working the Trefry (Cliffside) and Bourque dairy farms. Freddy Bourque was Burton’s dearest friend and he felt his loss deeply. Burton loved animals, but he absolutely loved those cows. He often joked that they let him speak, always listened, and never sassed him back. Burton’s hobby was collecting farming newspapers and magazines dating back a century. He never missed a Gaither concert on Friday night television, or any show about war, history, or veterinarian life. Burton was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and attended Evangel Assembly in his final years. Burton was born in Yarmouth, N.S. to W. Burton and Rebecca (Skinner) Forbes on August 13, 1953. He will be forever missed by his family: former wife Nancy, son James (Amanda), daughter-in-law Michelle Nickerson, siblings Rebecca Anthony, Allan Forbes, Larry (Joan) Forbes, Seretha (Michael) White, Scott (Rose) Forbes, Rachael (Yvon) Ouellette and many nieces and nephews. He absolutely adored his grandchildren Autumn, William, Jackson, and step-grandchildren Samantha and Jade. Burton was predeceased by his parents, his nephew Jeffrey White, and tragically by his son Daniel in December 2020, on the Chief William Saulis. Thank you to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital staff of the Emergency Department and the Covid unit, Rev. Nathan Hill, and the staff of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth for all their compassion and assistance. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 5th, at Evangel Assembly, 1 Myrtle Street, Yarmouth, with Rev. Nathan Hill officiating. Visitation will be before the service from 1-2 p.m. Reception to follow at Jacob’s Loft at Sweenys Funeral Home, 567 Main Street, Yarmouth. The service will be livestreamed on Evangel Assembly’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Donations can be made to Evangel Assembly. Online condolences may be sent to: sweenys@sweenysfuneralhome.net, or you may sign the guestbook online at: www.sweenysfuneralhome.net.
Burton trusted in the promises of Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
