Bernard George Scott
October 24, 1947 – August 14, 2022

Bernie Scott October 24, 1947 – August 14, 2022 Today I, Bernie Scott, born 1947, join my loving wife, Joanne, who passed away in 2003. I leave behind my darling daughter, Tonya Malay and her husband, Adam, and my precious son, Troy, and his wife, Briana and all my special grandchildren, Gabrielle, Rachel, Luke, Sophia, Isabael, Teddy and Jo-Jo. I ask my family to shed only a few tears and then focus on all the happy times we shared. Each of you has a treasure box of wonderful memories. Look at these when you are lonely or thinking about me. I was truly blessed in having such a lovely, caring and wonderful family. I leave behind my brothers, Bob and Bill, and their families. I remember all the times we spent at mom’s weekly Sunday dinners. It kept us all connected. And a special thank you to our best friends, Bev and Dave White, who were always with us in good times and in bad times. I also say “Good Bye” to my sister-in-law, Joyce and her devoted daughters. In closing, I leave you with my philosophy in life: “A person’s wealth is not measured by the amount of money he/she leaves behind. It is measured by the number of people a person helped and inspired along the way and that is how, I, Bernie Scott, would like to be remembered. Thank you all for a wonderful life”. I thank all my colleagues whom I have worked with over the years along with the students at Sackville High and Millwood High for all their support. I learned in my first year of teaching how precious a student’s life is and it shaped my teaching philosophy that I should always put my students first and my teaching subject second – and I have never regretted doing so. Many students became my lifelong friends. I will always remember my time spent in Cuba with Joanne and Raul’s family. And special times with my bingo and market friends. After retiring in 2001, I had the pleasure of delivering an employability program to unemployed youth sponsored by the HRM Fire and Emergency Services and supported by the Sackville Volunteer Firefighters Organization until October 2020. I thank Dan Parker, past President of the SVFFA for his continued support of the ESAP program. All of the youth were wonderful individuals and I cherished the memories of seeing them all become successful contributors to society. I also cherish the “Inspire Award” I received from the Boys and Girls Club recognizing my positive influence on these young people in my program. In closing I again say “Good Bye” and “Thank you” to all my students, friends and neighbours who so generously looked after my appetite with the delicious meals and good wishes. I especially thank Marilyn and George MacDonald, Ed and Ivy Warner, Danny and Jessie, Chris and Krista, Jim and Jean MacKenzie and May Richardson. I also thank the V.O.N. and complete staff of the V.G., especially the Hematology Department, Dr. Fraga and staff. You are all the angels on earth. Thank you, Bernie Scott Funeral services to be held on November 5th 11:00 at The Rock Church on 222 Sackville Drive. If you’d like to make a donation you could do so at pascott@accesswave.ca for SHS scholarship program. Dad was the founder of the Sackville High Alumni Award to students.
