Barry J. Watt
1955-2022
Barry James Watt
February 8, 1955 – December 17,
2022
Barry James Watt was born in smith, Alberta to Harry James
and Rose (Dedio) Watt. Growing up in northern Alberta, Barry developed
a great love for the outdoors. He hunted bear, elk and moose and
enjoyed time spent in the woods with his Dad. In his younger days,
Barry was a regular at the Sylvan Meadows Golf & Country Club
in Rycroft, Alberta and the Spirit River Curling Club as an
accomplished competitor in both sports. He was an avid fan and enjoyed
watching tennis, golf and curling.
By trade, Barry was a journeyman carpenter. He worked for
Parks Canada in Banff National Park and enjoyed being in the heart of
the mountains. One of Barry’s favourite jobs was working as
part of a crew that rebuilt a safari lodge at Camp Moremi in the
Okavanga Delta of Botswana. The experiences he had in Africa, and
especially the wildlife he was surrounded by, were fondly remembered
for the rest of his life.
When living and working in Vancouver, he also owned a home at
Point Roberts, Washington. He would spend weekends and vacation time
there and loved to garden. He developed and groomed his property until
it was filled with a beautiful variety of shrubs and perennials. He
had a tremendous green thumb and was an excellent
gardener.
After retiring from a thirty-year career with the West
Vancouver School District he moved from his condo in Burnaby, BC to an
acreage on the Saint John river in rural New Brunswick. He lived half
a mile from his niece, Katherine, her husband John Hann and their
family. Barry’s greatest joys were the Hann’s
children – Rebecca, Daniel, William and Graydon as well as his feline
companion ‘Nugget’. He would take the kids to
their games and practices, frequenting arenas, gyms and golf courses
to cheer them on and watch them progress. He made an impact on these
children’s hearts and, as «Unc», he will be
remembered for his kindness, tenderness and good nature. He loved each
of them deeply and unconditionally and was so proud of them, wanting
nothing more than for them to be happy.
Barry is survived by his mother Rose Watt of Edmonton,
Alberta and by his sisters and their families: Yvonne (Bill Beacom) of
Calgary, Alberta and Karen (Ken Hudson) of Prince George, BC. Barry
was predeceased by his father, Harry James Watt and his sister Valerie
Ann Yatsula.
Respecting Barry’s wishes there will be no
visitation or funeral service.
Arrangements are under the
