ANDREWS, Donald ‘Paul’
August 23, 1932 – August 25, 2022
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Paul Andrews of Calgary, Alberta, announce his peaceful passing at the Bethany Cochrane after a brief illness, at 90 years of age. Born in Elmsvale, Nova Scotia; he was the son of the late Stanley and Jennie (Fulton) Andrews.
Paul graduated in 1952 from Mount Allison University with his Engineering Certificate and proceeded to Nova Scotia Tech graduating in 1954 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He started his engineering career with Imperial Oil Ltd. as a Petroleum Engineer and had positions in Red Water AB, Edmonton AB, Chatham ON and Calgary AB. Paul also worked with Sabine Oil & Gas Corp. and Co-Enerco Oil & Gas Ltd. until he retired in 1994. Paul enjoyed hiking and learning about nature and was a member of the Esso Resources Annuitant Hiking Club. He was a member of the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club. Throughout his life he enjoyed various sports including, hockey, golfing and curling. Paul also appreciated the French language and culture and for a number of years attended Alliance Française in Calgary. He became very proficient in speaking French. Paul also liked classical and folk music and was an extensive reader of classical literature and poetry, biographies and philosophy. He was known to memorize various classical poems and sonnets. He was a member of the United Church of Canada. Paul was always eager to lend a helping hand in the community and was always there to help his children and grandchildren with their education and extracurricular activities, including helping or coaching sports (softball, soccer and hockey), assisting homework, driving and any other way he could assist.
Paul was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Eileen (nee Kempton), and his children; Donna (Colton) Oswald, Greg (Donna) Andrews, John Andrews, Richard (Lisa) Andrews, daughter-in-law Lenora Canny, former son-in-law Kelly Scott, and former daughter-in-law Kathryn Belsher. Paul was predeceased by his sons Robert Andrews and David Andrews. Paul will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren all of whom he adored; Connor (Cassandra), Brent and Dan Scott; Dante Oswald; Bryon, Blair and Davis Andrews; Kristen and Brett Andrews; Rory and Ciara Andrews; Sierra, Dane and Aidan Andrews; step-granddaughter Blyth Oswald; and his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Hélène Gingras Andrews, Joyce Andrews, Alice (Ramsey) Armitage and brother-in-law John (Betty) Kempton.
Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by brothers, Frank, Fulton and Arthur; Douglas in infancy; sisters, Rena, Blanche and Muriel.
Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a quiet celebration of life at a later date.
