Obituary
WASHBURN, Albina (nee Pinter) – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious and golden ‘Mamica’ Albina at Meadows of Dorchester, surrounded by her family, on Thursday November 24, 2022, at the age of 86. Cherished mother of Miro (Patricia) Pinter, Darko ‘Darin’ Gricnik (Linda Koehler), Albina (Tony) Di Giacomo and Karmen Solar (Steve Stuart). She will be missed by her stepchildren Larry, Janice, Denise and Cheryl. Beloved grandmother ‘Mama’ of Johnny Solar, Scott (Marilyn) Pinter, Heidi (Lee) Rumohr, Garett Edwards and great-grandmother of Marcus, Easton, Bexton and Theodore. She is survived by her sister Slavica Kosar, brother Joe (Lojska) Pinter, sister-in-law Milica Pinter and brother-in-law Tony Ferko. Mamica will be forever remembered by many nieces, nephews, Frank (Laura) Pinter, Melody Raabe, Lori (Peter) Tougher, Kathy Tougher, Marjan (Heidi) Jakob, Tanya Jakob, Tanya Brake, Betty Crawford, Nikki (Andrew) Brest, Tony Jr. (Tara) Ferko, Amy (Sean) Van Denberg, Erika (Mike) Demars, Joey Pinter Jr., Johnny Pinter, Tony Pinter, Steven Pinter, and nieces and nephews in Slovenia; Franci (Marjana) Leva-Bokovnik, Dejan (Barbara) Matic, Zlatka (Viki) Acko, Jozica (Darko) Pisotek, Dusan, Suzanna and Jozica. Albina will be lovingly remembered by her relatives in Slovenia; Boza (late Franc) Vrbek, Marianna and Miro. She leaves behind her best friends Katica (late Martin) Simoncic, Anka (Roman) Hrovat and their children Andrej (Lara) and Peter (Gina). Predeceased by her husbands Frank Gricnik, Gordon Washburn, siblings Franc Bokovnik, Elizabeth Ferko, Marija Jakob, Malcka Barbaric, Frank Pinter and brother-in-law Andrej Kosar. Albina, along with her family, immigrated to Canada in 1968 from her homeland Slovenia to Hamilton and was sponsored by her brother Frank Pinter and his wife Milica. The family will be forever grateful to them for providing the opportunity to come to Canada. Although it was not easy to add Albina’s family of five to their family of five, they did it out of kindness and love. She worked for many years at Cambridge Clothes and retired from The Niagara Parks Commission at the age of 65. Albina lived life to the fullest, in early years she looked forward to her weekly visits with her special life long friends Anka and Roman Hrovat. She was very hard working, for ten years she cooked for the City of Niagara Falls Non Profit Housing corporation monthly meeting. Albina loved to dance and garden, but her absolute greatest joy and passion was to cook and bake for her family, above all she loved bringing her family together and she will be always remembered for her special phrase ‘Make Picture’. When it came to baking, she was in a league of her own for her famous Apple Strudel and Potica and whoever came to visit was assured to go home with a tin of their favourite baked goods. She cherished her two dogs Sandy and Amy. Weekly dinners with the Di Giacomo family was a highlight for Albina. She will be sadly missed by the Di Giacomo family; Pat and Maria Baldinelli, Chris, Heather, Aedan, Liam and Ava Di Giacomo, Maxine, Mark, River and Evelyn Dury, her good friends Ester Mateo and Lyse LaFontaine who always shared a kind word for Albina. In 2019, Albina was fortunate to make her last visit to her beloved homeland Slovenia which was her yearning desire to do before her passing. She will be missed by her many friends at Emerald Retirement Home who she socialized with for the past five years. Albina will be particularly missed by the event coordinators Jane, who took very good care of her teaching her how to colour and Amy who would greet her every morning with a kind word and cuddles. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Wednesday November 30, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held Thursday December 1, 2022, at 10:30 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow Fairview Mausoleum. In memory of Albina, memorial contributions may be made to Heart Niagara and would be appreciated. Online condolences at pattersonfuneralhome.com
