Donald Bachynski passed away at an assisted living residence in Mississauga Ontario on December 18, 2022 at the age of 92.
Donald was born on December 1, 1930 on a cattle farm in Ridgeville, Manitoba, to his parents Leon and Mary Bachynski. Venturing away from home he met and married Mary Peternics in 1954 and became a supporting father and grandfather to his family. He was passionate about sports and it was his favourite topic of conversation, especially when it came to hockey and his grandkids’ sporting events. When Donald wasn’t preoccupied with these activities or chatting away, you could find him outside gardening or making sure the birds and squirrels were well fed. He loved tinkering and had innovative ways of repairing or repurposing objects.
Donald is survived by his children, Dianne Sidey (Jeff), Les Bachynski (Anna), Marie Ferkul (Joe), Michael Bachynski (Vina), and Kevin Bachynski (Claire). He is also survived by his sister, Nettie Konopliv, brother, Alexander Bachynski, and his aunt, Pauline Thompson. He was the loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: Kaitlan, Robert, Simone, Sean, Joel, Lauryn, Maia, Georgia, and Nathaniel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his sister, Olga Przybilla and his brother, Myron Bachynski.
On Wednesday, December 28, 2022, a private ceremony will take place at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home in Mississauga, ON followed by an interment at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Vaughan, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
