Early Saturday morning a bright light, in the lives of many, moved on to illuminate the way in another place, and time. Barbara Ann Skinner, born in February 1931, passed away surrounded by love on October 29th, 2022. My mother was a friend to so many, always showing her genuine interest in the happiness of others. Beloved daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and most of all caring friend. Barbara’s love of people lead her to her career in nursing. Her mother and father, Ashley and Ethel moved to Port Credit in the 1950’s, and bought a home on Stavebank Rd.. It was across the road from the builder/seller Milton Skinner, and his family. She would walk north to the QEW to catch the bus to Toronto General Hospital – and my father Donald E. Skinner, her future husband, would watch this cute girl as she passed his home, or a house he was building… and the story of our family began. My sister Carol and I grew up in a home filled with joy, support, and love. Dad’s untimely passing in 1988 left behind a determined widow who ensured only the best for her mother, Ethel, her sister Audrea, my sister Carol and I. In the 1990’s she found love and companionship with Allan Ross Moses. Barbara and Allan spent time in Muskoka, and traveling with their friends and family. Barbara had the pleasure and joy of meeting, and seeing her two grandsons, Indigo Skinner and Jasper Skinner grow into fine young men. Anywhere mom went she would find commonality with others, and show her deep sincere caring humanity. She loved to share a story, a joke, a get-together, a coffee, a meal, a conversation, and most of all time with others. Many will miss mom. There will be an intimate service in Port Credit this week should you wish to join us please message me. At a later time, we will be hosting a celebration of her life in Muskoka, and hopefully something similar in Port Credit. Again should you want the future details please contact me. My sister Carol, wife Jennifer, our boys Indigo & Jasper, and I are truly grateful to have had mom in our lives, and to be in her inner circle. She shaped so much with simple kind gestures. She will be missed every day.
