Obituary of William Donald Chudoba
Although 87, his sharp mind, energetic spirit and strength had us all believing he would be with us forever. Sadly, after celebrating a beautiful day with his wife, children and grandchildren, Don left us suddenly on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
His greatest love was his family. Don leaves behind the love of his life Gail (nee Latvanen) with whom he shared over 60 wonderful years. Seeing them dance together is what true love looks like. He instilled the values of hard work, integrity and honesty in his children, Peter (Lorraine), Donna Petrakos (Jim), Nancy Ziccarelli (John), Elizabeth Reed (Marty) and Michael (Melissa).
Some may remember Don from his long career with Algoma Steel, where he started as a draftsman and retired as Superintendent. He was an ‘old school’ kind of guy. A man who led his life by example. His emphasis on education and a good work ethic extended to his grandchildren. He was extremely proud of what they have accomplished and the goals that they have set for themselves. As he would say, “Keep up the good work”, Christopher, Joshua and Jacob Petrakos, Anthony (Melissa) and Nicholas Ziccarelli, Natalie (Parker) and Rachel Reed, and Gavyn McCabe (Rachel). They will miss Grandpa’s guidance, laughter, and celebratory lunches.
Don was a man of faith. “Sonny” is now reunited with his parents, Peter and Mary Chudoba and his sisters, Stella Schimings (Gordon), Sylvia Masters (George), Annie Bertolo (Mario), Helen Perri (Mario), Olga Boyette and Roma Jane Chudoba. Much loved son-in-law of the late Hazel and Sulo Latvanen. Fun-loving brother-in-law of Gary Latvanen (Elaine), Dawn MacInnes (Jim), Sue Latvanen (late Paul Serravalle), and Glen Latvanen (Cheryl). Respected uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Don’s love of sports started at an early age playing baseball, hockey, bowling and golf and later continued as an enthusiastic spectator. Much joy was found listening to his colourful commentary while watching his favourite teams lose. Don was as meticulous about maintaining his yard and gardens as he was with the many projects he took on. His eye for detail was respected and unparalleled. He always had a pocket full of treats for the family pets and a cold beer for friends and neighbours.
We will continue to make you proud by working hard, loving each other and living by your lessons.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private service will be held with Mr. Gene Monin officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Please consider a donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice in Don’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
