William Mahoney
1961-2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of
William « Billy » Mahoney on October
12th, 2021. Billy was born on
December 23rd, 1961 in Halifax, Nova
Scotia. He was the son of William Murray Mahoney and
Patricia Mullins.
Billy served in the Canadian Armed Forces as both as an
Infantry man with the 2nd Battalion of the
Royal Canadian Regiment as well as a Naval Acoustic Operator with HMCS
Halifax. He was a skilled diver, a guitarist, and a talented
photographer!
Billy had so many passions in life, he was an excellent
skier, holding a pass at Crabbe Mountain since 2003. He was
very much into nature, fishing, hunting, canoeing, camping.
He loved the mountain he lived on and loved building things,
especially making hand crafted gifts for his nephew, niece and
granddaughter.
He travelled extensively during his life and loved to share
stories about his adventures. His gardening was second to
none, if anyone knew Billy at all, they knew his marijuana plants were
an endeavor he took great pride in. He had a baseball cap collection
like I’ve never seen the likes of, and you could be
guaranteed to receive a text « just to chat » at 3 am in the
morning! He loved cheez whiz and toast and Alpine beer along with his
extensive Alpine memorabilia collection. He had a huge love of
motorcycling and his beautiful Purple Harley Davidson was one of his
prized possessions.
But what he loved most was his family. The sun rose and set
on his little granddaughter Maeve and his son Ryan was his
world. He loved his father Bill and was as protective a
brother as anyone could ever be. Family was EVERYTHING to
Billy.
There are no words for how much Billy will be missed. In
addition to his parents, Billy will be greatly mourned by his son,
Ryan; granddaughter, Maeve; his three sisters, Katherine (Edwin),
Donna-Marie (Paul) and Bev (Tom); his brothers, Joey (Cristine) and
Troy; niece and nephew Tree (Ray), Melissa, Bobby, Graham, and Jared;
great niece and nephews, Prestly, Marshall and
Jasper. This writing would not be complete without
including his beloved companion Buck, his beautiful German Sheppard
who never left his side.
A special thanks to his niece Tree and her husband Ray who
went above and beyond for Billy when he needed it most, from a hot
meal to help fixing his car they were there. Thank you to each and
every one of his family and their significant others for pulling
together during this time of pain and loss.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Oromocto Funeral Home.
Billy’s memory will be celebrated privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Mental Health
Association.
