Bill passed away peacefully on Friday, October 15, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Hospice Waterloo Region. He will be dearly missed by his wife Jan and Sons Graeme (Megan) and Ryan (Kelly) as well as his ‘South African Son’ Warren Luyt, and his three sweet Granddaughters, Isla, Evvie and Violet. Other family members who will grieve his loss include brother-in-law Ron (Heather) and brother in-law Wayne and nieces Jessica, Erin, Andrea and Olivia and great nephews Griffin, Garnet and Zuka.
Bill’s life began in Stouffville, Ontario but because he grew up in an Air Force family, he spent time overseas in France and Germany during his formative teenage years. Once back in Canada, Bill moved to Toronto where he met the love of his life, Jan, at Kipling Collegiate.
After high school, he was chosen for a military experience at Royal Roads Naval Academy in Victoria, B.C. However, Engineering called him back to Ontario to attend University of Waterloo where he achieved a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
His very successful career had many highlights: designing and planning the MacNeil Tylenol facility in Guelph, opening the Western Sales Office for Sheldon’s Engineering in Calgary and finally working with his esteemed partner, Ed Seegmiller in developing Mott Manufacturing in Brantford. Bill loved the challenge that came with organizational systems, but he also excelled at the personal touch within the business and truly valued each and every one of his employees.
Bill’s talents were myriad – he was a gifted nature photographer & passionate boater. His favourite place was being on his boat, ‘The St. Tropez’ exploring Georgian Bay.
Throughout his life, Bill was an extremely devoted family man always taking time to enjoy activities with his Sons whether it was ski trips, boating holidays or camping trips. He was known for his generosity of spirit, always willing to help others – including lost boaters on the Bay. He was also a dedicated husband to his wife Jan of 52 years who he spoiled and cherished until the end.
Bill had been very involved in Rotary in his younger years and then in later years transferred that love to Westmount Golf Club where he was an active player since 2009. He enjoyed the beauty of the course and often enjoyed the green fairways and lush vegetation through his photography.
Bill lived his life to the fullest and so with heavy hearts we release him to eternity knowing he will be greeted with the phrase “Well done my good and faithful servant”!
