CHOMA, William “Bill”
March 15, 1933 – August 1, 2021
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of William “Bill” Choma on August 1, 2021 at the age of 88 years.
After a short illness in the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Bill died peacefully with his wife, Gwen at his side. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Bill was born March 15, 1933 in Frains, AB. He attended school in Frains, Grassland and Boyle Alberta, and played hockey in Athabasca and Lac La Biche. Bill farmed with his father in his younger days. He was an excellent musician and loved yodeling and singing in Jams with his wife of 27 years, Gwen. He played in many bands as music was his life.
Bill was a jack of all trades, he built six houses and one apartment on 95 Street, was in Real estate for eight years and owned Cliff’s Transmission for twenty years; his neon sign is hanging on 104 Street and 104 Avenue in Edmonton.
Bill went to Ukraine in 1994 to visit family and cousins he enjoyed reconnecting with. Bill and Gwen bought a Pleasureway van and enjoyed travelling extensively to the US and Mexico and spent winters in Yuma for 25 years as snowbirds. They loved to go to the Kikino Rodeo where Bill won many 1st prizes for his singing.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Captan, Dr. Ao and the staff on NU 6W, Robins Pavilion at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
A Divine Liturgy will be held Saturday, August 7 at 10 a.m., Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, 9003 – 153 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, Reverend Janko Herbut officiating, with interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
