Obituary for
Wendy Kathleen Robertson
It is with great sadness the family announces the unexpected passing on Monday, June 14, 2021, of Wendy Kathleen Robertson of Whitecourt, AB, at the age of 61 years.
Wendy will be forever loved by her children, Kristie (Jamie), and Scott; sisters, Joyce (Jake) and Doreen (Russell); brothers, Dennis (Patti) and Keith; nieces, nephews; and many more relatives.
Wendy will also be forever remembered by her dear friends and co-workers.
Wendy is predeceased by her parents, William and Kathleen; and her oldest brother, Billy.
Wendy was born July 11, 1959, in Peace River, Alberta. She was the youngest of six children born to William and Kathleen Klemchuk. As a child, Wendy was adventurous, yet cautious and smart when making decisions. One favourite childhood memory she had shared was of riding in the family boat, scooping up baby ducks to kiss and then release them back into the water.
Wendy attended Centre Street School in Peace River for her earliest education, then TA Norris; in 1976 she graduated from Peace River High. When talking about her childhood in Peace River, Wendy spoke with great fondness of her many dear friends.
Wendy was extremely close with her beloved English mother, and was devastated when in 1977, her mother passed away.
In her early 20’s Wendy began working for Alberta Forestry, where she met George Robertson. They married in 1987 (divorced 2014), and moved to Edson, AB, and one year later their first child, Kristie, was born. A few years later the family moved to High Level and Wendy made the decision to leave her career in forestry. In 1992 the family moved to Rocky Mountain House, and that same year, their second child, Scott, was born. Wendy happily dedicated herself to being a full-time mother.
The family moved then stayed from 1995 on, in Whitecourt, AB. As the children grew, Wendy began working outside the home again, first with Woodlands County, and then started her career with the school division at Blue Ridge School in 1998. In 2003 she relocated to the Northern Gateway Division Office. Wendy worked for the school division for almost 23 years.
One of Wendy’s greatest joys in life was being a mother. She dedicated her life to her children’s happiness and experiences; sewing their Halloween costumes, and later sharing in all of their personal and career successes as adults.
She had a great love of animals, especially for her two dachshunds. Wendy loved their sweet and spirited personalities and enjoyed taking countless pictures of them. She eagerly shared these photographs with everyone she knew.
Wendy’s “happy place” was her garden, which she filled with an abundance of flowers. If she was not talking about her children or her dachshunds, she was talking about all her beautiful flowers.
Wendy was a bright light to so many people; this world is now a dimmer place without her in it.
Honouring Wendy’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held.
In lieu of other tributes, as Wendy was an avid dachshund lover, donations may be made to Alberta Dachshund Rescue www.albertadachshundrescue.com/donate.html or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.ca/
