Redding, Vivian Katherine, 92, Shelburne.
Thankful for a long and well-lived life, demonstrating unwavering grace, poise, strength and acceptance of God’s will, Vivian passed away peacefully and in her time at Surf Lodge, Lockeport in the early morning hours of May 27th.
Born on December 1, 1928, in Hazel Grove, PEI she was the eldest daughter of Harry Ray and Katherine Marjorie (Matheson) Craswell. After attending Prince of Wales College, she entered the workforce, teaching in the proverbial one room schoolhouse. Not content and more than a bit curious about the world, she moved to Montreal. It was there that she met and married Gordon Redding. During their early married years, relocations were the norm and wherever they were, she was usually able to find employment at a local bank branch. Finally residing in Shelburne (after some 34 moves), raising a family became her more than full time job. In 1970, she re-entered the workforce with the acquisition of a local jewellery business which she ran as the Shelburne Jewellery Store Limited until health issues required her to discontinue in 2004. She attributed her longevity to her determination which, some in the family referred to as being stubborn (which she did not deny). The best word to describe that trait is, probably resilience, which she most clearly demonstrated time and again. Always ready for a new adventure, she enjoyed a vast range of travels and experiences. When at home, she was often heavily involved with a variety of volunteer activities and crafts.
She is survived by sons Robert (Glenna), Shelburne and Alan (Carmen), Cranbrook, BC as well as her greatest of joys for whom she was thrilled to be Nanny, granddaughter Kaethen (Jody), Halifax, Colin (Kara), Hammonds Plains, Alex (Christine) and Andrew (Christie), both of Toronto, Ont and Adam (Jackie), Montreal, QC. She is further survived by great grandchildren, Claire and Logan and sisters; Hazel MacLeod, Charlottetown, PEI, Alice Burns, Truro and brother-in-law Grant (Susan) Redding, Shelburne. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband Gordon in 2018. Gratitude is extended to staff at Surf Lodge where she had resided 28 months and to caregivers, especially Agnes Abbott and Bernie Nickerson, and VON staff whose care had allowed her to remain in her home prior to that point.
