Obituary of Virginia Desnomie
It is with great sadness the family of Virginia Desnomie of Piapot First Nation announce her sudden passing on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Virginia had a beautiful soul and spirit who was a teacher, mentor, mom, aunt, kohkom, sister, daughter, colleague, and friend to all. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and loved watching them all in sports or school activities. Virginia was always seen cruising around to family gatherings and special occasions. She was a community member who always supported and participated at community events.
Virginia was predeceased by her dad, Ivan Obey; grandson, Tyrone Eashappie; paternal family: Mushum George Obey and Kohkom Eliza; special Kohkom Mary Jane Baker from North Dakota; maternal family: Mushum Henry Ironchild and Kohkom Mary Louise ”Skinny Kohkom”, Mushum Edward “Shack” Ironchild; parents-in-law Victor and Helen Desnomie; brothers-in-law Christopher and Albert; and sisters-in-laws, Theresa and Donna.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Raymond Desnomie; daughters, Charlene (Roman) and Stacey (Jay-R); son, Vaughn (Susan); grandchildren: Brandon (Christina), Braiden (Tamara), Lane (Charissa), Justine (Darcey), Roman, Nicholas, Dustin, Raelyn, Sophie, Recco, Zane, Jayla and Brooklyn; great-grandchild Luca; godchildren, Jaylene Francis and Trey Sangwais.
She also leaves to mourn her maternal family her loving Mom, Sylvia Obey; sister, Leona “Cowboy”; brothers, Sherwin “Stickman” (Corrine), Alphonse “Cat” (Minnie), and Barry; special aunties, Lillian “Cookie” and Loretta “Mouse”; and her Felix relatives from Sturgeon Lake (Uncles Henry, AJ and Jacob and Aunt Elaine); adopted sister and brother-in-law, Shelley and Jon Weasel; adopted brother, John (Lois) Desjarlais; adopted sister, Nona Longknife; as well as all the Desnomie, Francis, Obey and Ironchild families; and so many other family and friends, too numerous to mention.
A Traditional Wake will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Piapot Community Hall, Piapot First Nation. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Traditional Elders officiating. Interment will follow at the Piapot First Nation community cemetery.
