Obituary of Verda Toews
Verda Megli Toews, our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother was born September 6, 1923 right after wheat harvest. She was the second of a family of ten children born to Aaron and Mary Baerg Megli, at Sunnyslope, Alberta. Mom grew up on the family farm west of Linden where she enjoyed family life. She passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at Westview Care Community.
At the age of 15, Mother was converted and baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. In 1946, she took Practical Nurses Training and enjoyed her work at Linden Nursing Home. In 1947 she married Lewis Toews and together raised a family of 7 sons and 1 daughter. After several years of operating a dairy farm at Linden, they moved to a new frontier to begin a new congregation. Her gift of service to the community and hospitality, to all who came to their house is long being remembered and often created lasting relationships. Numerous foster children came to the home, and we often felt like they were part of the family. Mom and Dad loved to travel and would often share these happy times by taking friends along. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed growing flowers, shrubs and fruit trees. She had a love and concern for her grandchildren by caring, nurturing and helping those in need. Mom faced the challenges of life alone when she became a widow in July of 2000. Her last 9 years were spent in care homes, under the care of others and she appreciated it.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children; Darrel and Olivene Toews of Vanderhoof BC; Roy and Doris Toews of smith AB; Orrin and Estella Toews of Silver Valley AB; Don and Darlene Toews of Silver Valley AB; Roger and Rhena Toews of Silver Valley AB; Norman Taves of Camrose AB; Debbie Taves of Camrose AB; Fay and Pat Bartel of Cromer MB; daughter-in-law Alana Toews of Camrose AB.
Siblings; Ray Megli, Irvine and Irma Megli, Viola and Jake Boese, Ethel and Noah Toews, Orville and Helen Megli, Edith and Howard Reimer.
Those gone before are her parents, husband Lewis, son Virgil, daughter-in-law Judy, 2 grandsons, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
