Obituary
Valerie Millan of Neepawa, Manitoba passed away on December 6, 2021 at the age of 77 years.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Nativity Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, McCreary, MB
February 28, 1944 – December 6th 2021
Valerie (Val)was born near McCreary, Manitoba. Early childhood development challenges meant that Valerie would remain on the family farm. Valerie had a great fondness for nature’s creatures. She intuitively knew where to locate the secret robin’s nests and the wise hen who would hide her chicks. When her 4 year old nephew wandered astray and the entire family frantically searched high and low and checked all of the dangerous locations, Valerie quietly circled the very ripe wheat field and located a tiny blond head moving through the heads of wheat. At the end of the field, she intercepted the errant child and returned him to the very frantic parents, with her tiny smile that conveyed the – I told you so – message.
Valerie remained on her mother – Mary Millan’s farm until her mother passed away in 1980. Valerie then went to live in Neepawa.
Valerie Millan moved to Touchwood Park Training Residence and Day Program in 1986. It was there she adopted her nickname “Val” .After a few years she moved to a foster home and then returned to TWP Group Home in June 1996. Val’s ever-present smile, her gentle nature, and her delightful teasing and joking, would gain the love and devotion of a large network of friends and a new family. Val grew to love and be loved by her Touchwood Park Family.
Val’s infectious smile that would light up any room.
Val’s favorite colours are red and purple.
Val loved animals and enjoyed going to the Zoo on trips.
She loved doing puzzles, puzzle books, playing bingo and bowling. She enjoyed going for drives, especially to see her old stomping grounds at McCreary. She also enjoyed Day Program Day Trips.
She enjoyed her time watching her favorite shows on the T.V.: The Waltons, and Little House on the Prairie.
Val like shopping and going out for meals with others.
Val also enjoyed having her hair done and looked forward to her appointments.
She also loved listening to country music and watching country song videos.
She loved to reminisce about McCreary and growing up there.
Val would never tire of sharing one of her most memorable occasions – taking a plane to visit her sister, Gerry, who would remain a very close friend and sister to Valerie forever
She made many good friends over the years with the other Touchwood Park Individuals and Staff. She built a special bond with her roommate, Neil, at her last Group Home.
Val – Valerie will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
