Thor passed peacefully on October 29th surrounded by the love of his family. He left us much sooner than we hoped. He was a really good man. A great son, brother, husband, dad, father-in-law, grandpa and friend. He came to Canada from Norway, with the intention of staying for 6 months to learn English. Then he met our mom and made Canada home. They were best friends, married within a year of meeting and worked together to build a beautiful life. Dad was a hard-working man. He came to Canada as a watch-maker, then ran his own dry cleaning business with Mom. After which he worked in Drayton and took Instrumentation at NAIT. He then went on to be a long time employee of Texaco/Imperial Oil. Throughout all of this time, his family was always his priority. He loved our mom more than words can say and had the kindest heart and was a really good dad and eventually a great grandpa.
Thor is predeceased by his loving wife Elaine, his parents, Georg and Hjordis. He is survived by his sister Berit, sister-in-law Jeanie and his adoring children, David, Karin (Wayne), and grandchildren Rebekah (Warren), Emily, Jonah and Kiera. He was loved by so many friends and co-workers who he considered family. Mom said Dad never met a stranger, as he was always eager to visit and make a new friend.
The world has lost a truly beautiful soul. May he be in Heaven with Mom and smiling down on all of us! We love you so very much and are so grateful.
A celebration of Thor’s life will happen at a later date when we can honor all that was so important to him.
