Thomas Meers Wednesday March 24th 2021 avis de deces

Thomas Meers passed away Wednesday March 24th 2021 at the age of 88 due to cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life Tom managed his illness with strength and grace. Those who knew him loved him for his kindness and gentle disposition and they will continue to honor him by living their lives to the fullest.
Tom started his life in Canada at the age of five after a long journey from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. He and his brothers were sent to Fairbridge School in British Columbia as part of the WWII campaign. Tom talked about the school often with fond memories and even funnier stories of mischievous hijinks as boys are prone to do. He left the school at the age of 15 to make his mark in the world. He had a host of jobs from tree topping to mining and finally settled on the Canadian Air Force.
He met his wife Susanna Meers (nee Barter) through mutual friends and married in 1961 in Halifax. Shortly thereafter they had two daughters Sandra Meers and Brenda Hughes (nee Meers).
The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Tom. He loved fishing and spent many weekends on the lakes with his wife and daughters. He loved to garden and was known for his green thumb. Tom’s love for animals was evident and was always known to have a treat for his canine friends. Thank you Gryff, Ollie, Brixie and William for always bringing a smile to his face. Tom’s pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Susan of 60 years, two daughters Sandra and Brenda, a grandson Callam, a son in law Tony and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the staff at Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital for their loving care and support during his final days, the palliative Doctors and Nurses, the VON for their warm support, all the neighbours and friends in Middleton and Hubbards whose love and support is unsurpassed. The family would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Ronald A. Walker Funeral Homes for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.
There will be no memorial service. The family requests that instead of flowers and cards donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
