Obituary of Theresa Szabo
SZABO, Theresa (nee Ambrosi)
Passed away peacefully at Tabor Manor on January 21, 2021 at the age of 94. Beloved wife of over 67 years to the late Joseph (2017). Loving mother of Joe (Susan), Betty (Jim) and Sylvia. Cherished grandmother of Benjamin (fiancée Jessica) and Kimberly (fiancé Mark). Predeceased by her brother John.
Theresa was dedicated to her family. An amazing cook and baker, she was constantly encouraging family to eat when we came over. We will miss her cabbage rolls and her fantastic cookies at Christmas.
Education was very important to Theresa – she insisted that her future husband agree to educate all of their children, both boys and girls, before she would agree to get serious with him. She was a woman ahead of her time in terms of values of equality and democracy. She had a passion for reading and a talent for languages, speaking English, German and some Romanian.
Theresa and her husband Joe ran their family fruit farm together for over 30 years. They were well known throughout the region for their amazing apricots.
Theresa is now with her husband again; she had missed him very much these past 3 years. We know that they will both be smiling down upon their grandchildren’s weddings later this year.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Tabor Manor for their years of compassionate care. Mom and Dad were very grateful to be reunited at Tabor Manor, spending their final months together in adjoining rooms.
Arrangements are entrusted to the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral will take place on Saturday, January 30th at 3 p.m. in the funeral home ceremony room. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Tabor Manor.
