WILSON, SHIRLEY MARY
(nee McGinn)
In Almonte, Ontario on August 2nd following a brief illness, in the loving care of her husband Andrew H. (Drew) Wilson and their children Mary (Rod Trider), Hugh (Laurel Anderson), Ellen (Robin Paul) and Anne. Cherished Grandma to Fiona, Andrew, Evan, Bryce, Sydney, Kirk and Payton. Much loved sister of Hugh G. McGinn and of the late Gerald, Harold, Clarence and John McGinn and Myrtle Perry. Beloved daughter of the late Hugh G. McGinn and Myrtle McMullen and daughter-in-law of the late Melville and Agnes (Nan) Wilson. Fondly remembered aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend.
Shirley was born in Cobden and retained a life-long interest in the town. Prior to her marriage, Miss McGinn taught primary school first in Woodstock and then in Deep River. Throughout her life she remembered many of her pupils by name and was always glad to meet or hear news of them. Raising their children in Ottawa, she and Drew instilled a strong sense of family and connection to roots in the Cobden area and in Scotland. Later in life they enjoyed travelling in Canada and abroad, especially when visiting family and friends. A keen Bridge player, talented baker and lover of music, Grandma was happiest when her children and grandchildren came to visit and never, ever cheated at Skipbo.
A private family service will be held.
Shirley’s family would like to thank all who cared for her during her illness, in particular the outstanding staff at Orchard View by the Mississippi and the Champlain LHIN/Bayshore Palliative Care team.
Those who wish are invited to consider Shirley’s request for memorial donations to the Almonte General Hospital Foundation’s CT Scan campaign.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the
C. R. Gamble Funeral Home & Chapel Inc.
